So Xerath's stun duration is based on the distance it traveled

Ye , Xerath , that immobile mage , his stun being his only defense

Ahri can point blank charm you and you can't do shit for 2 seconds while she uses her 3 summoner 4s

They aren't the same thing. Xerath's stun duration is changed based on distance in order to suit his character and give him a meaningful weakness. Xerath is meant to be a long range artillery style mage. By having his stun be less powerful point blank, it reinforces his identity as a artillery mage.

PePsiLemoNN5 votes

I'm not asking for Xerath buffs :P

GankedByWindows39 votes

I didn't say you were. I'm saying that you can't compare the two skills in a vacuum like this, because it isn't a meaningful comparison. This would be like me saying that Ahri's charm is bad because compared to Morgana, it has 200 less range and a whole second less CC.

ModAcademy Kayn13 votes

And WOAH, every other mage short or long range has the ability to do that. Xerath's weakness is being jumped on, him having an insta-get out of jail card would be bad.

Lauchmelder1 votes

It's a problem when Xerath could do it but not when someone else can?

YoungSirJ0ey7 votes

Yes, because someone else can't also poke you from 1400 range with abilities that have no travel time.

Jâshîn1 votes

no travel time ? the animation on Q and E is ages before the damage, can be dodged easily, even easier than an ahri's Q or E

YoungSirJ0ey1 votes

E isn't for poking, and a properly placed Q is nearly impossible to dodge. Why do you think Xerath is so popular with scripts?

ModAcademy Kayn10 votes

What he said below/above. Xerath's strengths in long range void him the safety like that of other mages.

Lauchmelder1 votes

I could agree if we weren't comparing it to Ahri. Her mobility makes her at least as safe as Xerath. So she also should have the same drawbacks for getting jumped.

ModAcademy Kayn8 votes

Except her range is that big of a drawback. 2 spells of hers require to get within 550 range, and the Charm speed is relatively pretty slow from range. If Ahri is right in your face, she's within your range as much as she is in yours. That is risk, and if she gets pointblank, she shouldn't be punished.

(Keep in mind, Ahri's dashes have 1 one second static CD)

Lauchmelder1 votes

But Ahri is considered a "Kite mage". Which means if she can cast her E point blank she screwed up.

That's my main problem with her. If an ADC gets jumped he's most likely dead BECAUSE they are supposed to keep their distance and kite. He's dead because he screwed up.

Ahri, as the AP equivalent (more or less, she lacks DPS but then again, "Kite mage") lacks this weakness.

NineTailedMystic2 votes

She's not a kite Mage. She's a Burst Mage as defined by Riot's class and subclass listing. The AP equivalent of an ADC is more like Cass or Azir.

Lauchmelder2 votes

If Riot wouldn't have called her a kite mage I wouldn't either.

And if she's not supposed to be one then she's also not supposed to have the Q movespeed.

ModAcademy Kayn4 votes

Orrrrrr, she's being aggressive and is using her dashes offensively to get within your target's range so that they can't dodge it. Her Charm is honestly pretty slow compared to other skillshots, and it's pretty easy to dodge. If Ahri is using her dashes offensively, she should be rewarded for doing so.

It's called being interactive. Instead of hanging out, outside of everyone's range, you're going near more than one target. You have a team, Ahri can't charm them all. If she's using it offensively, her team can also deal with her. If she chooses to not be offensive, she loses target choice, and may have to hit a tank, instead of a preferred target like a Carry.

Her weakness is dealing with a competent team who understands how to deal with Ahri. Forcing Ahri to only get an effective cc from Range kills her, as you know who is in the front line? Tanks. Tanks who can fuck Ahri a new one.

AmazoX6 votes

Both characters are fine, I have talked to other Ahri mains & saw their comments on the Boards, The ones that ask for an Ahri nerf before she gets hit by the Ban hammer more than necessary is one common thing: Nerfing her Movespeed she receives from Q as she already is very safe in lane and has no problem at all.

Xerath's stun gets blocked by the first person hit, and he doesn't have a single mobility move to shoot it properly.

Ahri has a triple dash ult & a Q which gives her bonus movement speed, and her Charm deals the same duration either at face to face or from the furthest E cast range.

Seems unfair, don't you think.

but ahri is not an artillery mage

ahri is a kite mage who has to get relatively close to deal good damage let alone full damage

Xerath can hit you from out of sight range and can usually be protected by his team.

you cant really compare the two. Ahri is safe because she has two seconds before her hotness implodes upon itself and forces you to try and ravage her, xerath is safe because you must climb the highest mountains, dredge through the swamps, and battle the enemy hordes to get to him

They are not the same champion type at all.

Its been 7 years and people still don't consider that artillery champs are not meant to be like other champs lol

Anidan6 votes

It's been 7 years and some people still don't realize comparing spells in a vacuum is a completely ridiculous notion. Hell, even comparing whole kits in a vacuum away from the rest of the game is absurd.

That won't stop people, though. He compared Xerath's stun, just the stun and Xerath's lack of mobility, to a Charm able to be set up by Ahri's triple dash ult and Q. I guess we're leaving out that Xerath has an effective offensive range of somewhere over 1000 units on all of his abilities, unlike Ahri. Like an actual siege engine, Xerath is pretty crap if you can jump on his face and it's why you have people defending it so they can't break the siege engine as easily, but he causes major damage from distances that few champions can retaliate from.

Karfuss4 votes

Surprise surprise, an artillery mage with the overall highest effective range doesn't have a brilliant get-out-of-jail-free card.

Wonder why that is. Any thoughts?

Champion Skin1 votes

It is obviously because he isn't Azir and difficult enough to play that he is allowed to have it all to make up for being so difficult to play

Danjeng3 votes

Xerath excels from afar and is weak when in range of other champions. Can you imagine how terrifying it would be if Xerath's stun lasted for the whole duration point-blank? Melee champions would have no way of even touching him because they'll just get knocked out if they come close.

Ahri's charm is fine, it's a moderately hard to land linear skillshot. It's also a situational CC, the only one of its kind (disregarding the new champion). If she's to get nerfed, charm shouldn't be one of them.

Xerath has a very well honed kit that all is geared toward making him an immobile artillery siege engine. The less he moves and the farther he is, the stronger he becomes.

Ahri is the opposite, and needs to just become the mobile AP assassin that 75% of her kit is trying to make her. The charm should be strongest at CLOSE range because the ahri player should be using her mobility to get close, get off a rotation, and then escape.

if she gets into "beat my face range" to land her skillshots then why should she not get rewarded with easier skillshots? They are easily dodgeable from range due to their relatively slow speed

You can't tell me movespeed, medium range, and super high mobility is 'risk reward'.

Riven, Fiora, and Yasuo are risk reward - low range, high mobility, but in order to engage effectively they often have to blow their mobility (Yasuo is an exception, except his mobility relies on minions and can be countered, in order for Riven to engage effectively, she needs to blow her E)

It's not exactly 'easier skillshots'. It's like 'you suck if you miss' skillshots.

actually yes I can, it is a part of risk reward. This sentence right here that you've made is an incomplete story that may or may not have anything to do with risk reward and the possibility is very much there. But more importantly your bias is glaringly obvious as a result.

Incorrect. Riven, Fiora, and yasuo are not from release based around risk reward and in anycase all 3 are given far greater reward than you give them credit for now that it conviniences you to do so. Ahri's DAMAGE is not anywhere as high as any of these champs outside of large fights. Ahri's burst however can compete with theirs. Ahri is a mage, after her spells are done she doesn't just get to sit there and heal off your face with sustained damage knowing her mobility will be back in about .1-2 seconds. If you want to make ahri's mobility anywhere near what riven, fiora, and yasuo have then you can talk about this

It's not exactly 'easier skillshots'. It's like 'you suck if you miss' skillshots.

This is true... in bronze. Higher level players actually put in effort to not get hit before they ever even get hit not that they cant reflexively dodge after she tosses it out.

Take a look at Riven and Fiora's fucking cooldowns. A 40% CDR Ahri is practically a DPS mage with that Q uptime.

Fiora, Riven, and Yasuo have risk reward as a crucial identity in their kit simply because they are melee carries who lack reliable invulnerability/invisibility (Shaco, Fizz). Ahri is ranged - that already is a huge benefit. She has better hard CC than any two of Fiora/Yas/Riven combined, too.

If you want to make ahri's mobility anywhere near what riven, fiora, and yasuo have then you can talk about this

Like it isn't already? Q movespeed and R dashes. Riven's mobility mostly revolves around her damage spells, and unless she is chasing her Q's can hardly be called mobility (how to beat Riven if you have burst: Let her burn her Q's chasing, then turn and kill her before they come up again).

This is true... in bronze. Higher level players actually put in effort to not get hit before they ever even get hit not that they cant reflexively dodge after she tosses it out.

ahri cannot match that even if you pretend they too don't have any way to lower cdr

ahri is the only one of the four "explicitly" balanced around risk reward. fiora does have invulnerability btw. And yasuo has a regenerating shield

yas has cc from a longer range

your bias is showing

Like it isn't already? Q movespeed and R dashes. Riven's mobility mostly revolves around her damage spells, and unless she is chasing her Q's can hardly be called mobility (how to beat Riven if you have burst: Let her burn her Q's chasing, then turn and kill her before they come up again).

"riven cant be called mobile"

Ulting in front of someone and charming is undodgable.

there is a risk in using your ult to get in front of someone or using your ult in general. Non-bads will get aggressive as soon as her ult is down for this very reason

Asayake 5150glow1 votes

ahri cannot match that even if you pretend they too don't have any way to lower cdr But she can lol. Fiora gets a small dash every 2 seconds and movespeed, Yas has high mobility, but connected to minions, and Riven needs to choose between damage and mobility, except for her E, but her 4 dashes are about half the range of a normal dash. Ahri's range is basically a dash in of itself, because she basically starts out having already used a dash, and she has Q movespeed which is a lot (200 decaying to 80 over 1.5 seconds), and her ult. ahri is the only one of the four "explicitly" balanced around risk reward. fiora does have invulnerability btw. And yasuo has a regenerating shield

Yeah, but Fiora's invuln is .75 seconds and roots her for the duration.

yas has cc from a longer range

True, but it lasts half as long.

your bias is showing

"riven cant be called mobile"

Argument please? The fact is Riven has a very hard time catching Lucian or other mobile ADC's without use of flash.

there is a risk in using your ult to get in front of someone or using your ult in general. Non-bads will get aggressive as soon as her ult is down for this very reason

Yeah, but not so much in a 1v1, and if you get the kill (you will), there isn't much of a risk. Afterwards, she has to be less aggressive while her ult is down, but that's not risk reward. That's reward, then risk while cooldowns. Risk reward means you need to risk yourself in order to get any reward - like Kled ulting in - it guarantees nothing, and he's at a high risk of dying and losing the fight, and has no way to dissengage.

Meanwhile Ahri gets plenty of reward from poking with Q and throwing E's.

just no, by this argument xerath is even more mobile than ahri

By using a dash she's given herself 7 seconds to make critical decisions and if that's all it took to get into "i cant dodge" range then that's your own fault and I hope you dealt with it because after her ult is used up you and your entire team will have a chance to retaliate in big ways

if she can afford the followup. The current ability gives more flexibility in when to go in to do such things provided she can afford to keep using her abilities. The proposed change from your thread eliminates the reliable incentive to take advantage of such windows while leaving a mostly useless speed boost in her kit just to pretend it has any weight on her power curve which is just bad design. The suggested change regarding the duration of E in this thread once again leaves her with less incentive to even bother following E up with anything at all and thus using it in the first place.

If you are going to make ahri completely reliant on poke like xerath and lux then you had better give her the tools to behave this way like xerath and lux. Lower cooldowns on E, longer range on all abilities.

just no, by this argument xerath is even more mobile than ahri

Not more mobile, but Xerath is quite a bit more safe. The difference is Xerath's CC range is lower, but Xerath can kite very effectively, and he gets to be in his teammates as well. He's just more vulnerable to being flanked. Aaand, in lane, he doesn't get to use his insane range.

By using a dash she's given herself 7 seconds to make critical decisions and if that's all it took to get into "i cant dodge" range then that's your own fault and I hope you dealt with it because after her ult is used up you and your entire team will have a chance to retaliate in big ways

But... she's dashing into you? Which is nearly instant? Plus, in lane, your team won't be their to help, and that's where the dash into point blank charm is the worst.

It's even more of a problem later on because she will kite away from you and your team, and if you do the impossible and stick onto her, you just eat a 2 second charm. The problem is, 'can't dodge range' is EXACTLY where you wanna be as a melee assassin/diver. With Xerath that's fine because his stun is short at 'can't dodge range' - with Ahri, it's not.

ahri is a mage dashing into you for the point blank charm.

Fiora, riven, and yasuo dash into you and get a pentakill if you are weak enough. Ahri, even if you are weak, will need to retreat more than likely so she doesn't feed weak opponents.

It's even more of a problem later on because she will kite away from you and your team, and if you do the impossible and stick onto her, you just eat a 2 second charm. The problem is, 'can't dodge range' is EXACTLY where you wanna be as a melee assassin/diver. With Xerath that's fine because his stun is short at 'can't dodge range' - with Ahri, it's not.

xerath isn't a kite mage. Ahri starts off from a range from which you can realistically attack her. Xerath starts off from a place where you might not even be able to see where he went by the time you get past his thirsty as hell front line defending him

But does nothing against getting charmed just as it ends.

if that happens you wasted it. Charm is slow enough that you can use it after the animation begins.

Yeah, but the timing it requires makes it really ineffective unless she Q+W's into the CC.

Irrelevant, Q+ W isn't going to delete a half decent fiora even if you land everything, youre going to need a second round of spells and fiora will be healing during the wait or escaping. You are very likely not going to survive if you point blank charmed her even if she didn't use W and again everything landed.

Like seriously I don't think you even understand how dangerous it is to point blank charm people who can survive your burst attack especially if you did it with your ult. You've got like ONE chance to kill them and if they have significant sustain you are going to be in trouble depending on if you built mana, CDR, or AP unless you have abundant amounts of all 3 because fed.

It's also a skillshot that can be dodged just as easily as Ahri's Charm, easier, actually, because it has a 'cast time' of .75 seconds.

yasuo's ult is not a skillshot He just has another skillshot with no cost actually attached to it aside from some small amount of lane control

Ult in front of them and it can't be blocked either.

you just wasted your ult, if you don't tip this fight completely in your favor then that could cost you the game. You have one chance to succeed and small gains are not going to cut it during teamfights.

...That's the same for everyone else, though. And Lucian has his own flash. Riven is literally reliant on Flash or wallhops for assassination, wtf dude.

Riven is not reliant on flash, she just abuses the hell out of it because she can just like ahri.

Poke is not reliant on low cooldowns wtf.

Ahri's is, she doesn't doesn't have the damage to just build mana and spam and doesn't have the cooldowns to just toss anything out there whenever. She can't just go hitting one or two targets here and there and expect to be a significant replacement for a normal artillery mage like say xerath. Ahri has to risk more for her damage and also has the tools to deal with such risks once the enemy team decides to engage

Poke is like anything else, there's long cooldowns long range high damage, OR medium cooldowns long range medium damage, OR low cooldowns long range low damage (this doesn't really exist, it's more low cooldowns long range medium damage)

Ahri has low to moderate poke damage But she deals her damage fast.

If you eat all her damage like a noob it will seem like a lot more however.

Implying every other champion with a skillshot can't use their skillshots point blank either. Or use Flash while casting their skillshot to get it closer. Ahri just has an easier time doing it because she has mobility to do it.

Xerath is fucking annoying and incredibly frustrating to play against because of a) his Q, with 1500+ range on a 5 sec cooldown, and b) his passive that lets him stay in lane forever w/o running out of mana. If he gets that close to you he shouldn't have as much power as he does from far away.

Ahri doesn't have any long-range abilities, so her shorter-range utility should make up 100% of her kit.

Fiddlesticks Can point blank cc you for 2.25 seconds after he uses his ult blink.

Cassiopeia can point blank cc your entire team after she uses her flash

I don't see why you drag other champion mechanics in to make a qq baby rage post about ahri. Champion mechanics aren't meant to be based off of other champions. If they were, then there would be no uniqueness

Ehh... no he isn't the only one... since... Ashe ult also scale with the distance traveled

WOW, you bring up 1 other champion. GJ bud. 2 champions out of how many? something like 130 at this point? This doesn't make my point false either way.

If LIss is blinking in you can see where she's going to, and her ranges (aside from E) are rather short. Fiddlesticks has a really long windup on his ult, which also has a rather long CD. Cass ult stun can be negated by simply not facing her.

Yeah I know, I was making a point by using the same argument the op made but for other champions.
