Why having multiple game queues is best
The main reason I've found myself and others disliking the new queue process isn't that we have fewer game mode options, its that the type of summoners we're used to playing with are specific to that queue type.
The types of personalities that each queue type holds drastically differs. People who play ranked are obviously focused more on winning than anything and if you don't play to their standards, then you're going to have a bad time. People who play normal draft are very similar in the ways they behave, strict play-styles and if you don't adhere to the norm you get berated. Regular normal ques are a bit less strict. Summoners play champs that fit the meta but the guidelines are a bit more loose. Other summoners will still dog on you for feeding, but it won't be near the level of a draft or ranked match. As for Teambuilder, this was the mode that you could play whatever champion you wanted regardless of play-style or meta. No gripes, no complaints. If you wanted to play Sona top, unconventional, but go for it. If the group leader didn't want it to happen, you passed. Not a big deal. Queue times varied but they weren't drastic. The longest I've waited to play a match is probably 10 minutes. My prerogative, I wanted to try Tankmo jungle. I eventually got into a match and performed decent, but at the same time underwhelming. Nobody complained. We had FUN.
I feel with the changes to the number of game modes we have available to us that these personality barriers have disappeared. Since release, I've found it to be near impossible to queue for a match that didn't have a combination of all three personality types listed above. People berating others for trying something new is common again. More trolls and afks. Also, more whining, griping and complaining mid-match than I've seen before in 5 years of playing league.
Does anyone have any similar or dissenting thoughts? I haven't heard much in terms of favor of the new system. I do like the layout and the animations. Its fresh on the brain and eyes. I just wish we still had our personality barriers up.
