Getting out of Bronze (tips and thoughts)

I just wanted to make a post cause i know it is many frustrated players in Bronze who are tired the fuk off cause they dont seem to carry their way through Bronze to Silver.

First of all so is Silver not so much different from Bronze. U have feeders, afkers, ppl who dont understand when to engage in fight or not to, def or attack etc. They are all over the places.

The only difference i felt was when i Qeued with my gold friends, and got all gold, high silver and some plat players (who were plat prev season). There i felt they knew when to attack and when not to. One of those games we had a disconection for like 12-13 min, and i thought fuk, now we will lose cause the other team will get more push and we lose turrets. But i was amazed over that in those 12-13 minuttes my team had a different approach to the game. they started defending and were not engaging in any TF at all, not even 1 v 1. They shifted positions and worked out with 0 deaths and when the discon came back we won the game.

I am not saying it dosent happen in bronze or silver, but what i dont see in B and S league is the strategy switch from being on the offensive to go deffensive.

Back to the topic a bit. I was grindin for like 2-3 months to get out of Bronze, i was about to acknowledge that maybe i will never be able to get out of B and i just should enjoy the thrill of the game rather get frustrated over everyone else. Cause lets face it, Bronze, Silver or Gold, u arent getting on any pro team anyway (not that it is my goal).

But i couldnt get my self to trying anyway, and the feeling of getting frustrated didnt drop either. So i started to focus on my self, thought "man, if u are in bronze it is maybe u only deserve bronze".

So i had 2 choices, either try to play the way i did or start reading or seeing some videos or get some tips.

So i chose the second one and started to read and watch some tips.

I started noticing that the thing that had MOST impact in winning games were 1 thing for me, it is also other ofc but i noticed this to be the number 1 for me.

Ofcourse you have games u get caried and other u carry or u have an impact in game as jungle or sup where this dont matter so much cause enemy team is to bad, but i saw it had huge impact.

I cant say it how important this is, but it consists of 4 letters : WARD

I cant emphasize the importance of this enough but this is a game breaker thing to do. Warding is the key to win Bronze/Silver matches. I am not talking abt 1 sup who is warding bot lane and river, but when the whole team buy pink wards, and ward the map overall. I mean it u will have a HUUUUGE advantage. Enemy jungle cant gank anymore, and ur jungle can invade enemy jungle make him frustrated, u know when to push, when not to, cause u see enemy coming and can retreat rather get ganked by 2 enemies suprising u when u have killed that toplane and are pushing tower. Im not going to say so much more abt this topic. try it and see the outcome. U will be amazed:)

and pls guys, pls..warding is NOT the sups responsibility, its everyones.

The second thing i noticed were the lack of "counter" items.

Example: When u play a toplane and enemy toplaner is stronger and more skilled then u, and u know u will lose ur lane cause he is more skilled, go for "counter" items. If enemy toplaner is AP, enemy mid is also ap and jungle also a bit ap, maybe u should rather go for a magresist build so u can help ur team in late game rather push and feed toplane.

I see players go attacking/AP items to get more ap or ad so they can get stronger, but the enemy is far infront in farm and skill so the players who is less skilled and with little less farm will be dependent on ganks or help from midlane. And if they also are struggling in their lanes, u are doomed to lose ur lane.

So the lesson from this for me was to build a defensive approach so the enemy dosent kill me so i can hold my turret enough for to get it to mid/late game.

Many Bronze and Silver players dosent even glance at what items the enemy in their lane has. they just go for the build they have build for like 100 previous games.

Third thing i have noticed is that many ppl dont glance at the map in Bronze/Silver, they to occupied with their lanes that they dont see the fight emerging at their jungle, and when they do..its most of the time to late, enemy has got their kill and has vanished from ur jungle and ur jungle is dead and even more behind then he/she was before the fight, and his/her job is even harder.

All these thing combined made me win more matches then before. I know that skills and mechanic also play an important role. but when u have played a champ 69 times, u are more then enough familiar with champs skills.

Im not saying that if u only do the things described above u can go janna jungle and ace the game (maybe u can:)), but in bronze its that difference that turn a losing game to a winnig game for me.

Ofcourse u have early game champs and late game champs and sometimes it just dont matter what u do, but in B and S league, these 3 things will make u win more matches.

Sorry for my english writing, but just wanted to post this cause i know the majority of the players are in Bronze and Silver and i know thye are frustraed as hell:)

I am not a pro or Gold/Plat player only S4 as the highest. But these 3 things helped me out of B league this season....

A lot of text but the general idea is really good. Like all ranks in this game, if you have played a lot of games and are stuck at a certain rank its because you are currently playing at that rank and need to get better. Self awareness is huge in this game. I like your story because you specially say once you realized this you were then able to focus on getting better. And now look what happened, you went up to another tier!

Pretty much the same thing happened to me between this season and last season. I got out of bronze in season 3 after a little grind, but had been stuck in silver for half of season 3, all of season 4 and season 5. I stopped really trying to learn and could not get past silver 2. Not sure why it took me so long but I finally realized if I wanted to rank up higher I needed to get better. So I finally reached gold for the first time during preseason, and now after rank resets I currently have two accounts in gold with a 3rd sitting in silver 1 that I play with friends on. Once you accept you are at a certain skill level, any learning you do can make you better. And then once you start practicing and playing better you see your rank rise.

Your list of 3

  1. Warding
  2. Itemization
  3. Map Awareness.

Are all extremely important things at all elos. Mastering these will not only help you get out of bronze, but is very crucial in silver as well. Once you get to higher silver & gold people generally become much better at these 3 things, although still are not pros at them. I would also say as a tip for getting through silver is don't give up. People in low elo really don't know how to end games and games are thrown all the time. Hell.... I went 3-0 on this account yesterday and in none of those games was my team far ahead. Hell in two I had teammates bitching and talking about going afk. However, we did not give up and ended up winning each game.

So I guess tips to add for you for getting through silver.

  1. Continue to improve on the 3 things you listed.
  2. Keep learning.
  3. Learn two roles well and learn 2-3 champs in each of those roles well.
  4. don't tilt, don't give up.
  5. Mute players if they start being negative and flamming.
  6. Have fun

You guys talk all highly about gold / plat... but even in diamond people make the same mistakes you listed (i also find myself making these mistakes sometimes). I think (since you already know these mistakes you make yourselves ), it should be easier to punish your opponent for making them.

I climbed from b3 to gold5 this season and it took me around 130 games to climb through those 8 divisions. I played only Diana jgl/mid and I personally think that this is the best way to climb in lower ranks. Don't care about op champs, don't try to to be good at every role and every champion, just pick a single champ (it's easier with a simple champ, who has almost no chance to mess up)/position you enjoy and spam it until you are good enough with it to climb.

Here are some things I noticed:

  • in bronze nobody cares/knows about you kill pressure on them, I could literally walk to an enemy, hit my q, kill them and repeat, while people in silver start to walk away if you walk towards them/start to respect you. Tip: don't fight if you aren't sure if you can win this fight.
  • in bronze it felt like nobody could play his champion. The messed up their combos, played to passive/aggressive or didn't even knew what they are supposed to do (split push vs. team fight, engage vs. follow-up, peel vs carrying, ...). Tip: one trick a champion or play a really small championpool.
  • they don't know how to get carried. They try to craziest things to come back and the only thing they actually do is feeding. Tip: if you aren't fed, then try to help your fed teammate instead of trying to make solo plays.
  • they have no impact. I remember playing against a full damage nocturne who did ~900 damage in a 22 min game. This is also the main reason why you can loose a game even if you are really fed. Tip: always thing about how to be useful.

My biggest issue is not only those listed above, but it's lane pressure and roaming. I've seen WAY too many players in Mid or Top just start roaming without securing their lane, then go ballistic once we start losing towers and the enemies come knocking. People need to learn that if your lane opponent leaves to roam, you punish the hell out of their lane and try to take the tower. That's the fastest way to get them back to the lane or take a tower if they don't. Don't roam with them, you've got to take the farm and advantage. Additionally, I've been in sour games where we're losing and everyone is so intent on mid and ignoring top and bottom. If someone can afford it, you need to apply pressure and split push the other lanes to catch the opponent unaware. This is ESPECIALLY important when they get the Baron. Don't rush to the pit and try to team fight. Destroy the minion waves and push them hard, that basically wastes the Baron buff on them if they don't have minions near to your base to punch through the inhibitors.
