An idea for sightstones

  1. Whenever you place a ward, it starts charging.
  2. When it sees an enemy champion for the first time or after 30 seconds, it stops charging.
  3. When it sees an enemy champion for the first time it applies a hidden debuff to that champion, with a duration that scales with the amount the ward had charged.
  4. This debuff grants bonus move speed to enemy champions (i.e. champions on the warding team) that both have a Sightstone and are moving away from the debuffed champion.

Most of that is invisible. What the players would actually see is that when a ward sees somebody coming, the guy with the sightstone gets a buff to his move speed to run away.

The idea is to give supports a bit of a personal bonus for warding correctly, by making it a little bit easier for them to evade ganks. But it's only a personal bonus for warding, so it does not contribute to the mindset that the support has to be a ward caddy for the entire team. The mechanics are intended to only grant the bonus if you have prepared for a gank - you can't just drop a ward during a fight for an instant MS boost, because zero charge time means zero duration which means zero MS boost.

What do you think of this idea?

The problem it, and Riot mentioned this before. But buffing vision in a way that doesn't make it a mandatory strategy, is next to impossible. Not to say that warding isn't already mandatory. (with supports, and some Junglers, always getting a sight stone.)

I don't even think your Proposed buff would have any Real Game value. All it does is allow they support to play keep away. Yet the buff should be unnecessary if the support. And warding correctly would already provide invaluable results.

Riot seems to be moving away from wards and trying to implement other modes of vision. Particularly with the season 5 Jungle changes. Rapter smite now makes it easier to clear wards. But wolf smite and Scuttle Crab offer vision outside of wards that can't be denied by the likes of a sweeping lens.

Riot is pushing for *Clarity, so I'd say hidden debuffs are out of the question.
