DFG is removed now can we add more bans?

So DFG removal is a good decision but we are missing a key point in match making that takes place before you even get into game, the number of bans aloud per team. Lets take a quick look at some ratios: 2009-LoL begins with 40 champions and has 3 bans per team, 6 bans total. that means one team could get rid of 7.5% of the champions and total 15% of the champions were banned. 2015-LoL season 2015 starts and has 123 champions and still same bans 3/team and 6 total. that means one team can get rid of 2.4% of the champions and 5.6% total champions are banned.

Now I do not believe we need to have the 'same' ratio of champions banned(ie 6/40 = 18.45/123) cause that is just too much banning and quite frankly not that many champions are broken or are too easy to play to change the flow of the game or counter who you want to play or don't want to play against in general. But a simple 6 bans/team would be 12 total and bring the ratio to the middle(it would be like league starting and allowing 1.5 bans per team so 3 total)

I believe that if my number of 12 total bans is accurately close to bringing more balance to the game, and perhaps in eSports tournaments it doesn't even require a change because those are the best players league has to offer and are more than capable of playing a tougher game. However in public match making something needs to be done and I feel this is a great solution.

Please leave feedback on your thoughts and don't forget to rate if you agree or disagree.

Edit: Kivolan said 5 bans per team allowing 1 person to ban a champion, great idea. I still think 6 would be ideal but just adding more bans in general would be an improvement. The idea of everyone getting to ban someone instead of top slot getting to ban for the whole team is another great idea riot should consider and work into the game.

It needs to be five so each person on a team gets one ban each. So much more fair than my top lane simply banning their counters instead of getting rid of AP carries like Akali.

It should be changed to something like the dota 2 system

Each team bans 2 Then team A gets 1 pick and team B gets 2 picks Then each team bans 1 more Followed by each team getting 1 pick Then one ban per team Then one pick One ban Then team A gets 2 picks and team B gets one pick and it is over

Overall it makes it more about dealing with what is likely to be a problem to a team comp and less about what is super OP.

I like the idea of more bans, but disagree that it should be 6 per team. I'd be comfortable with 4.

The problem with banning 12 champions is that you could pretty much annihilate one role, like ADC, or something more specific, like Assassins. I don't think that's healthy.

I don't know . . . the massive champion pool of 3 junglers might be banned out, and 4 top laners with three adc's and two supports . . . that's like. The entire champion pool.

I completely agree on more bans, that would help out tremendously. I also like the idea of one ban per person. I think those two changes would greatly increase the champion diversity and general enjoyment of the game.

Two things I really think I should point out.

  1. When lol first came out, all there was was blind pick for the longest time, so your talk about 40 champions and 3 bans isn't quite right.
  2. During season 1 there were only 2 bans per side... so your talk about 3 bans isn't quite right..

Either way, your facts are a bit off. I don't really care about the number of bans one way or another, but I I thought you might like to know what things were actually like at the beginning.

Maybe 1 more ban each side would be nice, but every ban you add makes drafting take that much longer, and I would personally prefer more time playing a match and having fun than spending time deciding how to make sure I win. 5 bans would be a stretch, and 6 is just way too many. Adding more bans doesn't increase the number of viable champions in the game, all it does is make it so you have to pick from farther down the list of OP champs. If you aren't concerned about champ diversity, then who on earth even cares about bans at all?

If each team had 4 bans that would be nice I would ban Blitzcrank JarvanIV Malzahar and Akali if she wasnt already banned

Do you realize how long the intro to the game would be if we had twice as many bans? I personally don't want to wait around for that extra two minutes just to start a match off.

I'd love to see one more ban after each team picks 2 champs. It'll bring a lot more strategy to the draft.

This will never happen with the current balance team where the meta picks are so limited that the ban & pick phase will basically determine the outcome of a match for the pro scene. Even right now, that 5 min segment of the game is very important but making it to 4 bans will make it too pivotal.

I think 5 bans per team is essential..

Five bans per team would make the most sense. There's really no need for more or less. I remember hearing a method that I think Dota 2 uses. You ban a few, pick a few, ban your last bans, and rest of the team picks their heroes.

Ban Pick Ban Pick Match Starts

basically.
