I have personally seen many games that have made comebacks and after a long reveiw of them all it appears to be that the sole cause is either a baron or a drake upset. Does this mean that the higher importance of late game isn't the effectiveness of ganks. But rather the well being of jg objectives?
Teemo shrooms can destroy an entire team if they arent careful lol Baron buff is just for that short moment where you want a higher chance to win that next team fight, pushing power, or just potential to end the game, while drag buff stays forever
Heres the thing. You kill the enemy team every time at drag. But if you never get a drag and they always get drag theyre still going to come out even as their damage buff scales better. This is why even if kills are even if the enemy team denies you drag you will eventually lose unless drastically ahead by the time they get their first drag.
Objectives are important regardless. I hate how our team would never turn our kills into objectives, then wonder how the enemy had room for a comeback.
As for Drake, vs. Baron? That really a mater of team comp. If you have the more snowbally team comp. Focus Drake, That can easily give you the power you need to finish the game.
Baron is some what an alternative if reaching 5 dragons becomes unlikely. Baron is most effective when used in a split push team because you'll have 3 waves of baron empowered minions. This is some what unlikely as you really need a team fight comp to contest neutral objectives though.
If you have the Hyper scaling team, you may not be able to take these objectives as easily. But you would scale more off gold, (from tower kills) If you have such a team, you may need to give a few drakes, but make sure to apply pressure elsewhere on the map. Even when your not good at taking neutral objectives, keep the areas warded to that you can at least contest them.
Baron has saved me many a game this season when we were losing simply because Baron buff is great for combating super minions. 5 drakes is very important though as well for that super saiyan dmg.
Honestly this season places more emphasis on objectives, hence why 
is flourishing even though counter jungling is really weak right now. I've won more games with junglers who are securing drakes early 
than I have junglers who gank non-stop

Ps: I know lee can solo drake early, but most of them focus on ganking since they scale into utility.
