Dark Harvest is not "harvesting" on long range kills

This can be coded relatively simply... Currently is seems that a Soul only appears if you are within a certain radius. Killing the unit in question automatically absorbs the soul, else, you'll need to walk close to it.

Champs like Jhin/Xerath/Karthus/etc get no credit for long range kills however. You can't even walk over to get the soul since it never spawns.

I know this was likely overlooked since DH is pretty awful on Xerath, but it's not the worst thing on Jhin, so it would be nice to have the option to take this... considering both jhin and DH aren't currently considered "meta".

I think it's completely intentional and the potential risk to harvest the soul is therefore inherent to taking that keystone. It's like Thresh souls, you have to be close to trigger them and closer still to collect. If you're in lane, you can see which will 'drop' the souls, as they gain a red cloud aura within them (this is easiest to see on the canon minions).

So TL;DR: Intentional design.

Thresh doesn't collect souls on kill though. Souls drop differently for thresh too.

Souls DO drop AND get absorbed on kill for Dark harvest, except of course if you're too far away.

So...everything I already said. Grats?

It's not at all what you said.

"potential risk to harvest the soul is therefore inherent to taking that keystone. It's like Thresh souls, you have to be close to trigger them and closer still to collect".

You don't have to be anywhere AS near to the soul if you get the kill, itll fly to you, sometimes a screen away. This is in stark contrast to not getting the kill, you need to almost walk up beside it for it to absorb.

"If you're in lane, you can see which will 'drop' the souls, as they gain a red cloud aura within them (this is easiest to see on the canon minions)."

Right, hence why I said, while you're within a certain radius, it'll be present. What I'm saying is if you are able to trigger a kill on a target that would drop soul, you should be credited for it. If you are far away, then no, it shouldn't spawn. Dark harvest is if anything underpowered, and this is a change that would affect a very small pool of champions, most of which don't use the Rune ever.

It's freaking every thing I said. Okay, troll. Bye.

Its poor design if intentional then. I could understand it if maybe, and a very weak maybe, if it was only if you killed the target you got a soul drop. But just nothing is a bad design because it directly hurts a group of champions who get a decent amount of assists and kills from long range. (artillery based champions).

I disagree. I think it's something you need to consider before picking it (as with all runes/keystones). That's the (nearly) only tactical element remaining in this casual-catering game.
