Quick Question Regarding Tournaments

How do you join a tournament, I see people playing from every skill range. Just curious as to how I can join a tournament, do I have to have a team? Is it possible to join one solo?

There are numerous online tournaments that routinely host money/RP/Victorious Ryze based tournaments which you can find easily via google - Riot however really cut down their funding of these 3rd party tournaments sometime during S5 so a lot of them have died off
