Can you be demoted from gold 5 back to silver 1?

Because holy shit gold 5 is terrible. In silver I won most if not every single match I had rarely a loss. But now I was able to get to 72 lp in gold 5 and tanked it all down with straight loss's. Lost 5 games in a row at 0 lp and haven't de ranked. So can you de rank?

I remember one season they made it that you can de rank. But someone in game just now said you cant de rank from gold back to silver. Is this true?

You can be demoted if your elo falls hard enough. You just can't decay anymore.

to go from Gold to silver, you would have to hit Silver 5 elo.

You can be demoted to S1. This happens normally with an excessive amount of losses at 0 LP.

Back in S4 I hit D5 briefly which I was super proud of, got demoted eventually back to plat because I didn't belong in diamond. Was glad to have made it that high at all.
