Karthus Will Become More Usless Thanks to Edge of Knight

It's bad enough that champions can dodge his ult with non-ultimate abilities but you had to give a Sivir E on an AD item? https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gmcdzmBToVM/WAaI558Cc2I/AAAAAAAAWQI/Yi3650L7FjUi7z4noljMN7cZl_ZK9pvtwCLcB/s1600/item3.jpg It's hard enough to land Q's thanks to the MS people seem to get out of nowhere, but now an ADC can buy and item with magic resist and be able to block an ability? Let alone this can be used at the start of a Team fight and last up to 10 seconds. I really hope that some numbers get changed since Karthus buffs seem very unlikely.

Edit: Going to add this item since it is a Soraka like heal which although it has a high cooldown and is retricted to an area still hurts Karthus at the end of team fights. (Thanks Bombay Sandwich)

10s duration??? 30s cd??? can move while channeling?? you have to be fucking kidding me?

HazyCloud718 votes

What in the world were they thinking when they made this item?

DarkRitual9 votes

"You know, assassins and ADC's don't have enough ways to completely ignore abilities." "I don't think enough people have had to deal with an assassin Ghostblading to get in their face and have them completely ignore your disengage ability while they freely murder you since your only counterplay got spellshielded."

The Deckowner11 votes

most ap champion whome rely on one skillshot for hard cc is going to have a very bad time against this item(velkoz, xerath, etc.)

Arakadia4 votes

Its already hard enough to land your skillshots with their mobility, but this seems over the top.

DarkRitual2 votes

It's good for assassins going in for a kill, not so much if they are forced to play defensively (due to either hard zoning or constant jungler proximity). It's hard to react and get that 1.5s channel off if you're not expecting it, but you can easily pop it and go in for the kill against some champions. Mages with a quickly cast AoE followed by disengage will have an easier time defending against it. Morgana Lux Anivia Swain Ziggs (some less so than others, but same general idea).

Robert Smith2 votes

You are 100% correct that it is good on assassins. The problem is that the stats and active alone make it the ideal item for any ad champion going against a mage that has a single, super damage ability.

Here Karthus we also got you a second ulti in the form of an item!

[NEW] Redemption Total Cost: 2100 G Recipe: [Forbidden Idol + Crystalline Bracer + 650 G] Stats: +400 Health +75% Base Health Regen +75% Base Mana Regen +10% Cooldown Reduction UNIQUE Passive: +10 Heal and Shield Power UNIQUE Active: Target an area within 5500 range. After 2.5 seconds, call down a beam of light to heal allies for 130 (+20 per level of target) Health, burn enemy champions for 10% of their maximum Health as true damage and deal 250 true damage to enemy minions (120 second cooldown).

Can be used while dead.

Just make Karthus ult a channeled drain, and make the first tick of damage break spell shield.

Melledoneus7 votes

I think Karthus' ult needs to bypass spell shields. It's the longest damaging ultimate in the game, and shouldn't be stopped by a measly spell shield.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

except its unavoidable (by regular means) and its global. all the short comings are a good side effect

hhaavviikk6 votes

I simply don't understand why they keep releasing so many amazing ADC items with utility added to them, why cant'we go back to season 1 where adc's dealt a ton of damage but didn't get a shield, magic resistance, % damage reduction and a spellshield with their damage items

Auz the Ripper4 votes

It's an assassin item, not an ADC item. Not that ADCs won't try to abuse it, because they probably will, but it's not meant for them.

LankPants3 votes

Don't worry too much about Karthus. Every mage is going to be worthless when faced with this item.

Its worth noting that this item is basically useless in combat, any non minion damage ends the channel and puts the item on its full cooldown

bony whimsark2 votes

Think of how much fizz can abuse this.

Ar Arr Rrrr2 votes

and you as Karthus can buy hourglass? pls.

Robert Smith44 votes

Hourglass isn't on a 30 second cooldown

Keepe39 votes

Plus, you know. "Can Move While Channeling"

MunchCrunchLunch2 votes

but hourglass is better than a spellshield. it blocks everything.

Robert Smith27 votes

This item the shield last for 10 seconds (most likely pops after being used) but is up again after 30 seconds. This alone makes item 3102 outclassed since the shield is always on and comes back after a longer cooldown.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

well to be fair banshee always needed a buff maybe they need to make it an active as well since even an active spell shield is worth less on a tank than a squishie.

LankPants15 votes

Banshee's Veil will never be a good item for tanks with its current passive because tanks don't care about having a shield. If Riot wants to make it a strong item for tanks they're going to need to give it some sort of passive or active which they can actually utilise. For a spell shield to be good on tanks it would actually need to be spamable because blocking a single ability as a tank is low impact as hell. Since I don't think anyone wants a spamable Banshee's it's probably better for it not to be a tank item.

MunchCrunchLunch4 votes

well tanks die so fast i mean it does matter

One spell rarely has that huge of an impact on a tank, being a tank means that every spell that hits you is basically less impactful than if you were any other class.

Talisid1 votes

to be fair though item 3102 has 70 MR while this new item has a measly 35.

The Space Cowboy2 votes

Ya but the new item fits into the build of a ranged carry a lot earlier than Banshees. I wish they would put the new items shield on Banshee just to make ADC's have to make a real decision. Not, I'll have my cake and eat it too.

Volgorath2 votes

Not to mention that's on a 30 sec cooldown...

Breaku2 votes

That's really not a good item for ADCs.

Handy Sandy 1 votes

W in front of them, E toward them while having a item 3116. Land a bunch of Q's, possibly bait out any escapes or shields they have, and THEN ult if you die or ult while they retreat. You might not even have to ult and just kill them with a bunch of Q's. Karthus is really strong right now, especially lategame. He doesn't even need to buy boots, just sell them and get a liandry's or something and then your Q's will be doing 800 per hit.

RocketRelm2 votes

Rylais being removed/nerfed/reworked in this prepatch also. Karthus may not even have rylais anymore.

Azules5001 votes

item 3156 An item like this already exists. Hexdrinker for just 1300 gold hard counters a random Karthus ult.

Robert Smith9 votes

That blocks damage, this one blocks the ability all together and is up more often

Revali1 votes

tbh it doesn't really need mr, atleast don't make it stack with item 3156 imo

id be fine if the assassin chose one over the other.

but them stacking would just be disgusting.

DarkRitual3 votes

Maw is less of an assassin item. It's more situational as an Assassin item I think now you'll be rushing Edge over Hexdrinker/Maw, and don't think stacking them is really a huge issue.

Violet Raven1 votes

I could be wrong but I don't think this item will really have much priority on adc. Lethality is kind of a shitty stat for ad carries and that was their goal. They want adc's to stop building armor pen so they created lethality which is more designed for assassins.

Robert Smith1 votes

Black Cleaver isn't ment for ADCs (well it wasn't at a point) but some of them still build it. The active portion alone is worth buying it just like mid laners in the LCS buy a QSS even if their mages.

It synergizes with MF and Lucians ult, it's not an adc item and it's not a widespread adc stat now like armor pen. Black Cleaver doesnt have an active

LXII1 votes

Don't try to explain yourself. This board is nothing but "ADC'S SHOULD ONLY BUILD INFINITY EDGE AND NOTHING ELSE!!!".

Robert Smith1 votes

They can build Ludens echo for all I care. But the fact that it gives them stats they want and an active that can make them survive is what I'm afraid of. Forget ranged adc im talking about mele carries too. The active at the moment seems too strong for champions like Karthus who channel/ have a delay before they do damage.

LXII1 votes

Hourglass is "too strong for champions like Karthus who channel/have a delay before they do damage", yet that has never been an issue. If you use your ult when they still have their active that's on you.

Robert Smith1 votes

Hourglass has a longer cooldown, leaves in in the spot you moved it, and you cannot move or cast spells. This itme lets you move, has a shorter cooldown, and the shield last longer (granted it probably pops upon use but you can use it again up to 3 times before hourglass is active again

Spacesuit Spiff1 votes

I mean, i seriously doubt anyone will have this ready at the point in a teamfight where karthus is already dead and ulting. Either they had to use it earlier, or theyre at full health and a karth ult wont mean much.

Robert Smith2 votes

When you start a team fight and are able to block the CC headed towards you, you are removing their advantage towards you. Team fight heading south? Prep the active so when bard, Karthus or Jhin ults you you can just walk out. This is less of an offensive engage item (it can be used as one) and more of an item that gives too much self peel to adcs.

At level 18.

Which is pretty unimpressive, as by that point in the game everyone is already shitting out thousands of damage,

This is impressive, higher base heal than a level 16 soraka.
