Whats the point in smurfing?

SirWimder·5/26/2019, 6:23:56 AM·11 votes·8,136 views

Hello yall,

I just wonder why people smurf. To me their is no point. Like in Starcraft 2 im Grandmaster zerg player. Every so often a friend wants to vs me and their silver. I mean to me their is not even a point to it other then to have fun with friend. but in league, their are so many plat+ smurfs in silver....yes i know im bad at league you see them linking their twitch stream for their unranked to diamond crap. But whats the point in league? i mean other then an ego boost? I mean you have people trying as best as they can. just to get stomped by a diamond player who is half assing it with ez wins...and then talking shit....like yeah your diamond+ in a silver game, what you expect. .

They do to make the lower elos worse for ranked. They feel they can not play with the rank they are currently at so them make new accounts to feel good ruining peoples games or they just dont care enough to win so they ruin games by not trying to stay at the low elo it is sad when people do it.

LetMeAfkPlss5/26/2019, 10:12:27 PM8 votes

being an asshole and ruining the fun and the mood of low elo players being an asshole for funsies or yb/twitch views being an assholes some more for no fking reason being a tilted asshole who's hard stuck in x rank oh also being banned from their mains so confirmed assholes

Same as bullying - very low self esteem. If they play vs similar Elo they're among the weakest - so they smurf vs lower elo to win some easy games and feel good about themselves. Same reason/way 2 x 17 year olds would bully/beat a 12 year old (that's someone they can easily beat - since other 17 year olds of similar constitution might fight back and beat the crap out of them).

GripaAviara5/26/2019, 7:27:21 PM5 votes

Because they are bullies. Point. Nothing more.

Sure you have smurfs that play with friends because they need a lower elo, but that's another story and they are like 10% of the smurf population

ppl do unranked to diamond all the time to prove a point. Anyone can climb the ladder if they get good enough.

Poske5/26/2019, 11:55:09 AM4 votes

Look up DuoQ boosting

XJ999999999999995/26/2019, 7:25:41 AM3 votes

because people reach their peak with cheesy champions and instead of expanding their champ pool they want their dopamine and stomp low elos.

also blame streamers. whats more exciting, going 2-2-6 in a challenger game as a jungle tank/fighter or 25-0-3 with full AD jarven? the twitch kiddos like the latter. "omg so good".

Moonscourge5/26/2019, 3:42:36 PM3 votes

Playing on a blank slate. Clean MMR. For the challenge.

All viable reasons.

Are you seriously gm in star craft??? Anyways, yeah it's cancer. The worst part is the flame. "lmfao you guys are so fucking bad. Easiest win of my life". I wish riot would ban their main accounts for this shit via ip instead of the smurf account which they obviously don't care to lose.

Power Cosmic5/26/2019, 4:04:55 PM2 votes

Riot makes a lot of money off of people smurfing. It is even easier to do now with runes reforged making it seem encouraged.

I have 2 smurfs so I can play stuff I'm not very confident in in a competitive environment without having to risk my main's rank. They're both Platinum however, so not much lower than my main.

Demon King Maou5/26/2019, 8:15:06 AM2 votes

To make and sell accounts for profit.

Last time i checked they averaged 300 - 500 $ Gold with the 200$ difference being winrates & skins.

Original Sin5/26/2019, 10:56:45 PM2 votes

Because it isnt against the rules? If you get sick of your shit mmr and its like 10:15 just make a new account and get diamond with a higher lp gain loss so you can climb

AR URF5/26/2019, 10:51:27 PM2 votes

The point in smurfing is to win more games than lose. It's like wrestling in high school. Lose weight to get put against easier opponents.

Sir Saltarin5/27/2019, 1:08:16 AM2 votes

Proving that with skill you can easily climb regardless of the trolls/afks/matchmaking as the Gameplay Boards want to believe since they rather blame everything but themselfs when they get stuck on their peak elo.

This "flow model" should help explain. It was designed by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, and represents different mental states achieved by different combinations of skill level vs challenge level.

https://i.ibb.co/Q9ykkhs/flow-chart.png

As you can see, doing an activity where the challenge level is low and your skill level is high leads to a state of relaxation.

So people smurf to relax.

Implying that people actively do it for reasons other than leveling an under-leveled account

But on a serious note, I mean what's the pont in playing against bots? What's the piont in playing against your little brother? What's the point in doing anything that you're blatantly over-qualified for?

Because it's easy, and the utter domination of lesser beings is satisfying.

I have multiple alt accounts because as I played I introduced more friends to this game and played with them. Playing with them on my accounts that already had high Elos/MMRs would not have been fun for them, so I made alts. Now I use those alts because it allows me to queue dodge when the game fails to give me to role I selected and bypass the time penalty.

Lunar ArcS5/27/2019, 12:11:36 AM1 votes

Let me put into to different perspectives.

Me personally, i rarely smurf unless my main is suspended for me bing an awful person. OR I rank up smurfs because the amount of elo diamond+ gives you is minuscule. So much so in fact is that the equivalent of you winning two games is gonna put you back at your starting point for losing one.

No smurfs arent OUT TO GET YA or trying to make your life harder. In fact they get detected and placed with other smurfs most of the time and that's just been proven

Saezio5/27/2019, 2:02:04 PM1 votes

So, there is a difference between smurfs. If someone creates an alternate account to play a different role, that is a healthy smurf. Like, what am I gonna do? Destroy my main's mmr and feed in diamond games to learn the role? NO THAT IS INTING. I will create another account and climb playing the other role, I will be out of the low elo fast enough anyway.

Now, there are the bad smurfs, the ones that deliberately stay in low elo to create hell for others. That's despicable. But why people just hate on ALL smurfs just cause of some bad apples I don't get it.

Sorry been off shore for an extended trip and just got back. After reading all this it boils down to

  1. Your a streamer and you need the views, which in that case..... Remember Stream snipping is not cheating, due to the fact its not against the rules.

  2. You want to practice something in a competitive environment with out tanking your mains MMR and Norms are below you.......So is the elo of your smurf...Good talk

  3. You want to play with friends. (if your playing norms, then great. But if your playing ranked with your friend then your boosting!)

  4. Cuz im an ass and f you..... Well least your honest, even tho your pathetic scum of the gaming world. But you know that, and i did not piss you off, as you already know!

  5. We wanna teach others that if they "Get GUD" they can carry themselfs. Holy shit, you mean if you practice you can become better......F me where has this info been all my life.......

  6. My favorite that i read, My main MMR I CANT RELAX in ranked, I HAVE to focus on the game, i cant text, I cant just chill, its not fun.....your just a few steps away from realizing your part of group 4.....But the difference is I DID just piss you off.....But its ok......It was fun!

  7. We want to show people how to beat the elo they are in........Become a coach. If your so wise pass it on. But please not by doing what every other copy and paste youtube/twitch stream has done.
you can point them to the following

RTO Yassou Glaccial TFblade kingstix iOki midbeast lolpally KatEvolved RedMercy

I could keep going with streams that have way more views and money earned from the game just of the top of my head that have all done Unranked to Challenger videos......Trust me your not going to say ANYTHING new.

Zardo5/26/2019, 1:59:50 PM1 votes

I do it for a couple of reasons. First off, I do it to practice new champions and roles without it being called trolling. Normals doesn't help. Back in the day, I practiced fiora for hundreds of games in normals and was complete trash in ranked because they're nowhere near the same thing.

Second, to relax. When you get to a higher elo you have no room to breath. You cant stop playing to send a text, you have to keep your eyes glued to the screen and have to track everyone and everything in the game. Failing to do so can cause you to lose the game. You don't have this sort of restriction in low elo. You can kind of just mess around and it'll work most of the time.
