A Casual Player's Opinion on the Mage Update So Far

First of all, let me just say, I think the champions are going to be pretty badass, I don't think a lot of people would disagree here.

Then there are the items...

It looks pretty bad, I'm not about to deny it, it looks really bad on paper, but I do think, if anything were to come of it, the actives are a lot more interactive than the ones currently, and for that matter, a lot more interactive than many items in the game. I'm not saying they'll be strong, or even as strong as AD right now (Hell, honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up being weak as fuck), but.. honestly, it DOES look extremely fun to play around with and out of all the gimmicky builds and whatnot you could try, who knows, they just might end up working. The actives do in fact look EXTREMELY interesting, kind of like the things you saw in black market brawlers. Even the catalyst looks pretty cool along with the tear, chalice, etc.

That being said, from a balance standpoint, even if I'm usually not one to talk, I can see... well... EVERYONE'S concern about the whole thing just being really weak and I agree with most people's opinion on Zhonya's RoA and Athene's, but at the same time, I don't think it's a good idea to jump to conclusions this early in the matter, since we don't really know how they'd interact with the updated champions, we don't know EXACTLY how big of an impact the reworking in general will have, we don't know if they're staying like that for good (I know as well as anyone else that after Riot says something, they can get EXTREMELY stubborn about changing their minds, but this thing is like... a couple months away still so we should stay calm), and again, we don't know how well the new actives will do along with the passives and such either.

I used to love messing around with mages, but I stopped playing them as much since the beginning of this season, so I'm glad Riot's at least TRYING to do something with them. Do remember, they could've left them completely in the dust like they have A LOT of times in the past. Since they're attempting to get it right, I'm sure if these are released and they end up being extremely weak, they'll end up buffing them up some more or something like that. If they don't turn out too well, become even weaker, and don't get any compensation for it though... Well... Honestly, what's new?

Anyways, that's just my little opinion on the whole thing.
