Question 1:

Pretty much never. Actually I'm starting to think anything below high gold / plat doesn't even know item 3140 and item 3139 exist. The number of times I've seen QSS built out of the last 300 games or so played can be counted with just my hands. It's quite frankly astounding how little QSS is built considering how useful it is against any form of cc (Knockups require a dash or flash to get out of though..) and executes like zed's ult / duskblade.

My general Core Build:

item 3027 item 3151 item 3020 item 3116

Situational Items:

item 3157 item 3135 item 3001 item 3165 item 3089

item 3157 is rushed against Zed and is useful for teams that can gap close on me in teamfights.

item 3135 against teams that are building more than 50 mr and that don't have any threatening ap damage dealers.

item 3001 against teams that are not building mr and that do have threatening ap damage dealers.

item 3165 I buy this when there is heavy sustain / healing on the enemy team and typically replace RoA with it or when I'm against zed and can't exactly afford to stack up RoA after rushing Zhonya's

item 3089 will generally be the last item I buy unless I need both a zhonya's and a mpen item in which case I'll generally build zhonya's first and finish with the mpen item.

I just recently started playing Mal'zahar again on a relatively regular basis. I've been able to keep around a 70% - 80% win rate with him. He's a nice easy champion to just grind out games with. Boring as hell to play though. His csing is also kinda awkward / strange.

I love malzahar. In my opinion malzahar is not just about his ult. I have beaten my champs who use qss. My favourite buildpath would be liandres ludens rabadon rylas and zohnyas also check out my discussion on nfl based skins it has a malz skin in it too :)

I'm a former Malzahar main. He was a big part of my early/middle season 4 midlaning. Now I'm mostly a jungle/toplaner with no specific main. I can play every single role sufficiently. But anyways;

My usual Malzahar build starts off with item 3027 . I like to be survivable before I start nuking people with a combo. Then I usually go into item 3151 for the penetration. Then, for more pen, I'll focus on item 3020 . Once I have that, I'll usually roam a bit and try to take out anyone I can. Depending on how things are going, I'll either build item 3285 , or if I'm behind I'll build the cheaper alternative item 3165 . After one of those, I'll usually go with item 3157 for the active. Last item is either one of the two or , or a defensive item like item 3143 if their ADC is critting the shit out of me.

I haven't played much Malzahar since the middle of last season, but he's still one of my favorites. I don't midlane much anymore, so I can't say if my building tactics would work this season. Hell, I wouldn't even know if they were good last season. I build what I'm comfortable with and what I know works with my playstyle, rather than what's the most "meta gg OP rekt" build. I tend to be a very safe Malzahar, staying back and farming with E, not really making any risky plays. Usually the enemy will get frustrated and impatient with me just sitting around farming, and make a reckless engage which usually gets them killed (especially if my jungler is around. I usually plot with 'em).
