Soraka Rework - Feedback
Hello there,
I've been 'maining' Soraka support for the past 2 weeks or so and I wanted to ask a few questions regarding the rework. Just before I start, I want to add that I like the new 'heal-bot' design that captures most of what Soraka is, along with the 'field' of silence in which your opponents dreams are crushed (if those dreams are of casting spells/fun/getting away). Time for feedback:
Soraka's Passive: I like the nod to 'ambulance soraka' from Siv HD's video. Its an ok passive that allows for Soraka to re-position quickly during a team-fight in order to get the heals where necessary. The 2500 range seems a bit impractical (it would feels nearly as powerful at 1000 range) since one of three things is true at 1000 range: your ally is dead, you have just enough time to get in position, or you're simply traveling back to a lane with a damage ally in it (which realistically shouldn't happen). Also, roaming from bottom lane to mid lane, you'll need to travel half the distance slowly, the remainder of the distance quickly, and if you want to return, you walk back at normal speed. One time, I accidentally made the mistake of healing a an injured ally who was retreating, and as a result got myself killed due to losing the MS bonus from having a damaged ally leading the retreat. XD
Soraka's Q: Starfall now fits its name, the faster cast when the star is near is cool. The slow doens't seem like that much, especially when it disables your mobility boots (Whoops). In terms of a rework, this ability makes sense. Its straight forward and makes for interesting positioning choices for raka and the enemy team.
Soraka's W: the % max HP cost is serious. it punishes soraka for stacking HP and incentivises the enemy team to quickly burst down the squishy heal-bot. Personally I enjoy this ability immensely, the short CD makes up for the cost and allows soraka to quickly keep her team up and running at full HP. The ability becomes expensive to use when healing minions (to deny cs under tower), but sometimes its worth it (Haha). Overall I like this ability a lot and the drawback/power is pretty spot on.
Soraka's E (silence): This ability has been giving me a bunch of trouble. In terms of use, flavor, practicality, and functionality. Using this ability is tricky, and proper use of the silence and snare field is going to separate the good soraka's from the great. Its a difficult ability to use properly, and I'm not sure if it truely can be. The ability has a surprizing amount of counter-play, which is a problem for our magical unicorn, since she has no escapes. Flavorfully, I don't understand why enemies within the field aren't silenced if they did not begin their action in the field. The field should silence enemies in it. Enemies walking into the pit shouldnt' be able to cast spells or walk into it and tumble out before the field has time to collapse. It doesn't have a slow, or snare (until collapse), and its soraka's only defense outside of a well targeted Q that can be walked around (just like her field of silence). Practically, the silence make sense and 'can' mess up enemies trying to cast spells. Better oppoennts will simply walk out of the field, or if you're attempting to set up a snare instead of silence, they'll simply walk around it, or over it and dash out. Practically the field 'should' work. But functionally it seems like there are two problems preventing the field from doing what it needs to. There seems to be a cast time for the spell of what feels like 0.02 seconds. While this may not feel like a lot, I've had at least 6 opponents use a dash move out of the field after the pink area was visible. This is particularly problematic against champions with dashes and gap closers such as vayne, lee, riven, zed, or any champion that you are attempting to stop. Which leads me to a related issue that I'm not 100% positive exists. But I feel like the enemy champions are able to 'queue' up abilities' before they are silenced, and have their abilities keep executing while they should be silenced. This is problematic for soraka seeing as her silence is intended to prevent those exact actions from happening. Notably, I've silenced a lissandra coming out of her ice-claw, and she was able to cast her entire kit on me before the silence happened. Also, noting that I've silenced a vayne in response to her ultimate, but she was able to tumble out of the silence field. Its possible that my reaction is a bit slow, or there was some sort of lag between our connections, but it certainly felt like enemy champions could set up a queue of spells, them soraka casts the field, and the enemy champion continued to cast queued spells regardless of being silenced. takes a breath. Lastly, regarding soraka's E. It might be nice if her E could damage neutral monsters (I assume the purpose of not damaging minions is to prevent soraka from freely pushing lanes at an absurd rate).
Soraka's R: This ability is unchanged and fun, the extra 50% heal also makes for timing this ability to be exciting.
Overall her kit is functional and interesting to play. I'm still getting the hang of utilizing her E properly. I enjoy her rework as its gone a long way towards fixing her toxic design while keeping true to her heal-bot identity. (it feels strange using bot and identity in the same description).
