Someone explain mmr

Doing my placement matches and I was 1684 on my mmr per op.gg

I go into a match where the enemy team is all pretty much higher than my mmr and my team mmr.

We lose and now I'm down to 1534 mmr. How the hell did I drop so far against an opponent the computer deemed was stronger? And especially since the game wasn't a quick end. It went the distance?

Like I can understand loosing some mmr but dropping from gold 2 to gold 4 off one game? MAkes me think I have to ace these next two games to be placed in gold.

op.gg doesn't have access to your MMR. It has to estimate based on which players you get matched with. So when you don't have many games played in ranked yet it doesn't have a good estimate.
