How to Make a Good Ranked Team

I recently made a ranked team, which consists of all of my favorite duo queue partners. We range from plat 1 to silver 5 (although I don't let more than 2 silvers play in a 5v5 since their overall gameplay is weak) and are 2-1 in 5v5's, and 1-0 in 3v3's.

1st game: Against all silvers, easy win 2nd game: Against some plats, golds and a silver (like my team), simple win 3rd game: Against all plats, got destroyed

I have several questions...

  1. What are some powerful 5v5 comps?
  2. Is it possible to get a team rank of gold in 5v5's when I have a roster of gold level people?
  3. How should I improve my team?

Thanks in advance. summoner 31

I have a team of all silvers. We won 4 placements against teams ranging in rank from bronze-plat. Final match we were against 1 master, 2 diamonds, and 2 plats. We got destroyed and placed Bronze 4. RIP

With ranked teams, it honestly is about how much you guys play together. I was on a team with me (silver), another silver, and 3 lower golds. We beat a team that consisted of 2 high golds and 3 lower plats. We were able to win because we just played better as a team. We left laning phase a little behind, as their mechanics were generally better, but communication is just as important. I would say just keep playing with them.

As far as team comps go, at this level you should all just be playing your best champs that go decently well together. You don't really need to be trying to make "Jugger-Maw" teams at that low of an elo to be honest. Just ward a bunch and work on rotations/smart decisions.

  1. There are many powerful comps out there, listing a few won't help because "There are 2 ways to play a game, either you create your own strategy, or counter the enemy's strategy." What does you team want to do? Do they want to focus on team fighting? Having someone split push? A lot of peel for the adc? Do you want to counter their composition, or do you want to make your own? Or do you just want a specific champ in their team as useless as possible by countering them and camping them? Their can be a lot of questions on this sorry for not giving a direct answer, if you want to get serious in ranked teams and aim high, there will be a lot of questions you should try and answer.

  2. It's possible

  3. Better coordination, experiment some strategies, try more advanced tactics other than playing the normal meta (What the pro's do) which is kinda hard without a great deal of knowledge. Oh forgot, best way to improve a team, have everyone in the team know each other's strength/weakness, play styles, and in game habits.

Gold level has a mostly plat level sol q MMR. It is not uncommon to run into a teams that have 2 diamonds and a plat at that MMR level.

My advice is to come up with 3 variations of any 1 strat; and have everyone understand those variations. Example of this is a brawl comp; Hec and Sion top are pretty similar champs. They get tankie and in get the fight, but they do that in 2 different ways. Sion makes a front line while a good hec dives the back line. Both are brawling just in different ways. Your team has to understand what they are trying to do in fights.

Since you have such a wide level of skill try to make a comp that is centered on your plat players. Let them make the calls when to go in and train your sliver to jump in when told to. Ideally the plats are going to make better calls and the sliver only has to worry about working with the team.
