Why are disabling effects called CC?
Crowd Control intuitively means something that can affect crowds... AOE effects possibly. Why is Ryze's snare referred to as CC if it only affects a single unit?

Taking even one person out of the fight reduces the enemies in play, and can dramatically influence how the entire opposing force performs.
I was always under the impression that crowd control was an MMORPG term. I think it pre-dates Dota.
