No more on-death passives

I have searched the archives for a dev discussion (from some time ago) talking about the pros and cons of on-death passive effects (primarily KogMaw Zyra Karthus and Teemo ) and how Riot wanted to steer away from this mechanic in future kits.

However, I can't find it! What I thought id do though is start a fresh one on these boards to see how people feel about these. Specifically: incentivising death. This is an interesting discussion because as players most of us are familiar with and even fond of these pre-existing champions and their playstyles. However, lets be open minded and consider game health, new players, and future kit designs.

Also, yes, I've created this because (with the memory of that old dev post, saying that riot would turn away from future on death passives) I am a little shocked that they went with such a huge one for a brand new champion kit on Sion ...

On death passive's are not that bad in and of them self.

Though they should go far away from passive's like Zyra and Kog'Maw. Kog'Maw's passive is sort of useful since it lets you trade a kill in lane on a champion with large scaling. Zyra's passive however is just one inch above being useless. That thing is way to slow and predictable to reliably get any sort of use out of it.

Stuff like yorick and karthus and sion is faaaar better than zyra and kog imo

While I don't really want any more, if they do make more it definitely has to be of the former kind

Mostly, they have those passives to help a specific niche in the game. For Karthus, it usually gives him a chance to melt the enemy with his AOE and then get an uninterrupted ult channel off. For Kog, it is a trading tool to help him early with kill trading since he is weak early and needs to at least trade a kill when he dies so he doesn't fall behind. For Sion, it IS to incentivize him getting himself killed, he is a TANK and tanks want to soak all the damage they can, and being able to disrupt the enemy team and make them flee his huge post death kill power is basically a tank's dream in a team fight. Zyra's is lame and not very well done tbh.

P.S. Teemo doesn't have a post death passive... unless you count removing his Global Taunt, but that is kind of a bad thing...
