Is Yorick balanced?

heroikc··1 votes·948 views

How do I beat this thing? I can't beat him in lane and he just solos objectives in jg (really, he solos and infernal drake at 5 minute mark and took on rift herald on his own). It just feels you can't duel him because he outdamages you and sustains himself. Heck, he makes his own freaking army of the undead. Any ideas? Because he seems to make games long and torturous.

No

EDIT

OP changed the post title. Use to say Yasuo

Yorick is for the most part Balanced. Hes ult could use some work. But the update they have for him will help with it.

heroikc1 votes

THIS THING WAS TITLED YASUO?! How does that happen? And I can clobber Yasuos pretty easily. I guess his ult is one issue (with that bonus damage and all; I'm all for coordination and focus fire and all but it seems a little excessive)

He's pretty lackluster if he doesn't have ghouls up. If you fight him without his ghouls, he's basically Nasus with no stacks, no W, and no E.

If you bait the ghouls, disengage, let them die, then reengage, you should be able to win trades as virtually any champ. And the only real "escape" he has is his W, which is much better suited to catch somebody than to get away from somebody. And speaking of his W, if you have a dash, you can ignore it. Also, his E is kinda awkward, and if you dodge it or he misses it, his minions derp off.

But yeah, he's got some sweet perks to offset that. Being able to solo Dragon or Herald is valuable, as is shredding turrets if he's allowed to freely push lanes.

heroikc1 votes

Flaw: Just like Nasus, however, he will always have ghouls, just like how Nasus will have Q stacks, W and E. And is such demolition really intended on Riot's part? If so, I either need to buy him or ban him.

DrCyanide1 votes

He only has ghouls up if he walked from base to lane, was able to farm up a bit with Q, and he kept pushing that lane. The ghouls have a tendency to want to keep pushing the lane, so they'll run away from him. If he has to swap lanes (such as roaming towards mid for a team fight) he'll lose that power.

I think he's pretty fun, so I'd say go ahead and buy him to see for yourself.

heroikc1 votes

Yorick or Nasus? I already own Nasus (got him for free from recycling shards), but Yorick...might consider it.

Critmaster Garen2 votes

everyone can solo rift herald.

i dont think youre aware of how easily that thing is to take down. you can 1v1 it at lvl 9 with soraka.

heroikc1 votes

And what of dragon? How many people can solo it at 3-5 minutes?

DoktorKaiser1 votes

Elise, Lee, WW, Fiddle, Shaco, Skarner, Shyvana, Morde, maybe Vi, maybe Rumble, maybe Master Yi (I doubt it). Its not really that hard, pretty much any champion who can summon minions or can sustain had.

heroikc1 votes

...Admittedly, I can believe the ones for WW and Shyv...Even Morde (to my eternal horror).

Doozku1 votes

Morde actually has a harder time soloing drake than most of the champs up there. Soloing drake is surprisingly easy.

heroikc1 votes

I know that; I used to solo drake as poppy at level 6. That's usually when I try, enchant and time provided.

Meep Man2 votes

You can 1-shot his ghouls with basic attacks, so focusing them down is essential. The Maiden is different. The Maiden makes fighting him stupidly difficult, so it's best to poke down the Maiden if possible.

heroikc1 votes

Yeah, but they seem to pop up again like new. And Maiden gets more health based on 30% of Yorick's max health. And while that's going on, he destroys our turrets.

subhuman team XD1 votes

short answer : yes

long answer : CC and kiting is enough to take him down , though hes obnoxious when hes constantly splitpushing and if he gets fed he MIGHT be able to solo carry , but late game he falls off hard unless you missposition against him and his ghouls then you might be in trouble , other than that hes completly fine where he is right now

heroikc1 votes

CC is limited and seems pointless to use on him, particularly in teamfights (which he tends to join). And he DOES solo carry when fed, which he typically does during the early game, he has sustain. Edit: AND SOLOING OBJECTIVES AT 5 MINUTES IS BALANCED?!!? In that case I'll buy him and troll everyone.

Jo0o2 votes

I haven't really seen JG Yorick since his rework. He can solo Dragon, but he also lacks pretty integral ganking abilities, so I'm just not sure if it's worth it.

heroikc1 votes

What do you call that W of his then? And the Yorick I faced didn't seem interested in ganking until 8 minutes...after getting an infernal drake.

Jo0o2 votes

Yorick's W is very short range, slow, and can be entirely ignored by certain champs.

heroikc1 votes

...Good point. But in the chaos of a gank, it might work. This is, of course, just speculation on my part, given that it varies from player to player (both the ganker and gankie.)

Jo0o1 votes

FYI, I'm not the one downvoting you. This is a productive conversation!

Yorick CAN work as a jungler, I just don't see it being done with any frequency. Other champs with better engage and CC gank more effectively, and I think most jungle players value that over an earlier capacity for soloing Dragon. Plus, as I said before, Yorick's ghouls are a major source of his power, so if they aren't up his ganking capacity drops from mediocre to virtually nonexistent. I mean, I've TP'd botlane without ghouls and made a difference before, but in those cases I'd have infinitely preferred to be a Darius or Galio or other toplaner.

heroikc1 votes

Just saying you do have a strong point. Yorick can solo objectives (didn't help the first drag was an infernal drake), but that game did have me roaming from bottom to top, trying to keep everyone from feeding too hard. It was one of those chaotic matches for junglers. So I understand your point; Yorick is pretty circumstantial and reliant on his teammates to be okay on their own...or the enemy to be utter fools. Still, I understand why you would prefer Darius or Galio: Darius destroys people and Galio has lots of CC (including a long-range ult that is admittedly cooler than his old ulti). Yorick, in my opinion, is more designed to be some splitpushing behemoth, sort of like Heimer...but more mobile and tanky.

DoktorKaiser1 votes

He is pretty balanced, he is strong early and really meh late game. He can solo shit early if he uses his ulti, but seriously every champion in the game can solo the herald right now, its pathetic. Anyway, I was wondering what champ you are playing into Yorick, because early game he can just stomp some of them but there are some who buttfuck him easily.

heroikc1 votes

Wukong in top lane in one game (clobbered me) and Warwick in jg (where he kept soloing every objective as a jungler, even as I got fed with 4 kills to his 0 at the first 7 minutes).

Wukong is not great against durable targets, especially not juggernauts, so you kinda got countered.

Ward more and he won't be able to solo the objectives - yes he can do it, but it takes a lot of time.

heroikc1 votes

OK, I'll give you points for the first one, but I don't think warding will stop him given that 1.) he probably won't see regular trinkets and thus will proceed anyway 2.) he can destroy control wards 3.) two minutes to kill drag?

Huh?

Keep it warded and you go to the objective when you see him taking it, preferably with teammates unless you are confident you can 1v1 him, and then fuck him up.

heroikc1 votes

Guess so...

DoktorKaiser1 votes

Ok as Wukong the first thing you should not do is try to cheese him like you do to most other top laners, Yorick loves when you use your mobility to come close to him because then he will trap you in his W then 100% land his E and then the ghouls will rape your corpse. What you want to do is try to bait his E, its like one of the worst skillshots in the game when it comes to actually landing it IF AND ONLY IF you dodge it sideways, never dodge backwards, I guess you can do it easily with the help of your decoy. Now what you want to do after 6 and generally whole early game is not fight him because his damage is insane when fighting a champiot that cant heal or shield himself like Wukong, when he ults to like destroy your turret or smt you try and burst it down as much as possible because it will push your lane hard.

About that WW game, same deal if you get close to him he will trap you, try to be very close so you can use your Q to get out of his W and this make him miss his E. If he used his ulti run like hell.

Now if you want to actually destroy Yorick I suggest some of these:

  • Fiora - currently the most broken champion in the game imo, but even if she wasnt she would still dominate the matchup, its really easy to destroy Yorick because you deal more damage, deal true damage, have fuckton of mobility, can riposte his E or clutch Q easily, you cant get trapped because you can Q out every second

  • Riven - the main reason is again the huge mobility, huge burst and a way to sustain herself through the ghoul damage with her E shield, unlike Fiora she cant jump out of your cage that easily so its not that easy of a matchup, but it takes much more skill from Yorick to outplay Riven than vice versa

  • Darius - skill matchup, zone him hard level 1 while he still cant use his ghouls on you, he will either miss the entire first wave of gold or he should lose 50% of his health easily, when fighting you are obviously stronger 1v1 so he will try to run backwards, trap you in his W and E you and then kill you with his ghouls in a melee brawl which he WILL do if he hits you with everything so you must be careful not to get hit by everything like an idiot and you should kill him in a AA trade easily

  • Pantheon- need I say anything ?

  • Malphite - if you want to play a tank into Yorick without getting harassed to death your choice should be Malph, mostly because of his passive shield which will soak up a lot of ghoul damage you are bound to take early game and thus Yorick will waste a ton of mana and you wont waste a thing, also you can trade ultis if he tries to push your lane super hard with his maiden, your full combo can kill her which is important early

  • Renekton - just has a massive burst, is a known heavy lane bully and Yorick cant do much to stop him, you can E into him do your combo and E out giving him no chance to trap you and swarm you with ghouls, rather easy matchup

  • anything ranged - Quinn, Jayce (especially him), Kennen etc.

Generally you want to play something either super mobile or something that is a bigger lane bully than Yorick himself, ranged champs also work and assassins too (but they tend to suck since they leave your team with no tank and no CC). Good luck !

heroikc1 votes

Must all the best counters be so expensive? Most of those champions cost 4800 IP! The only one among them that I own is Kennen. Still, I can probably work with Darius, Fiora, and Quinn, so I guess I should work up to that point, at least. Also, the WW game, I know he can beat Yorick given he has better innate sustain and CC. So, all in all, thanks for the advice.

DoktorKaiser1 votes

Hmmm if you must work with something cheap maybe try Tryndamere, I really have no idea how that one would work but I guess you can outsustain him and farm all day. If you have Fiora do try her, its by far the biggest counter to Yorick (and to everyone as I mentioned she is sooooo broken). Btw Yorick beats WW due to higher burst damage and being tankier early game, he can hardly outsustain him and he has 0 CC :)

Yorick is like darius. It's unlikely that you can 1v1 him

heroikc1 votes

So what? Pray and hope your team isn't a bunch of ultra-sensitive jerks and gank for you? And at least Darius is one man; Yorick brings an army wherever he goes.

Yorick has no counterplay against multiple people as darius has his Q... The only hope you really have is wait for him to run out of mana or you burst him or outdamage him in a short window

And I can do that with who?

Since panthone naturally runs thunderlords or deathfire, i reccomending putting 1-2 points into the mastery that regens missing mana in the 3rd row of the 2nd column

heroikc1 votes

Trust me, I would like to, but the Mastery system wants me to invest all 5 points into any one skill. BTW, the skill you are thinking of is Meditation. Still, Pantheon does have good poke...and is cheaper than most other counters that were recommended to me. And he works with corrupting potion. Worth a try.

You can put one point by shift clicking the mastery icon

heroikc1 votes

And Riot changed it that way because >.< ?

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Depends on who you are playing as.

Avoid his skillshot, esp when he has ghouls up.

Longer trades should work against him if he has no ghouls up. Be sure to have corruption if you are going with this strategy.

heroikc2 votes

So who should I use? Someone who works in duels, good sustain, and works with corrupting potion's burn?

Tobias Brackner2 votes

Aatrox Darius Chogath Fiora Illaoi Jax Kled Kayle Nasus Olaf Renekton Riven Pantheon Poppy Rumble Ryze Shen Sion Trundle Volibear MonkeyKing

All these guys are able to survive/go even/beat the ass of Yorick (imo). Yorick can't really do extended trades unless he lands his skillshot & has zombos out. If either of those are true you should be able to go even with him if not completely beat his ass, depending on the champ you are using. Open item 2033 or even item 1054 for extra safety.

heroikc2 votes

Well, I already own 8 of them, so at least I got some variety.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Any further advice is going to be on a champion-by-champion basis.

Ex: Aatrox Can just dive on the nerd and beat him into the dirt. Open Cull if you want. Poppy Is going to want to harass w/ Q the moment he goes in for a trade or last hitand maybe slam into a wall if it's available. (Maybe she gets stun if she slams him into his corpse circle?) Def get Corruption.

you want somebody with a strong early game who also can jump yoricks wall. Rene is the perfect counter to him since he has easy minion clear and can bypass wall 2ez.

I see. Thanks.
