A frustration with Matchmaking

This is mostly a rant that about a single standalone case, but it is incredibly frustrating to me. I recently queued up for a blind pick game. I am usually against high bronze to low silver players because I am a Silver 5. This was true for everyone in the game except my lane opponent. For some god forsaken reason I was placed against a platinum 2 player. We both picked swain and I was obliterated. The sheer difference in skill and experience in the game led to him becoming incredibly fed. At some point he was 7 levels higher than. I could not go under tower and I could not farm without an extreme risk of dying. So I just want to know why or how this happened, I realize he probably queued up with friends, but it still frustrates me beyond belief.
