The future of League. How do you feel about it?
I'ma start this off by saying I am not a high elo player. I'm not pro, I don't stream but I do play this game a lot with friends and I have been playing it for a while. I feel that this entitles me to opinions of my own.
It seems like riots stand point on champion balancing and the direction of this game has had it's ups and downs. I commend riot for making League a very team orientated game. People actually call support in lobbies now because supports have a tremendous impact on the game, besides being ward generators. The 3 ward limit forces people to ward and that's freaking brilliant. While players in solo que don't move wards around the map in the way the pros do, at least there is generally more vision overall, making ward battles and vision control something we take part of and no longer only watch in the LCS. Good on you for that riot.
Now the not so good part. The champion balancing. Seems like the only way a team will win nowadays is to have heavy cc and high mobility. Look at any of the dominating champs in solo que and LCS and they are either equipped with high cc or ridiculous mobility, I'm looking at you Kalista. Lee sin, Vi, Leblanc, Zed, Nidalee are just a few more examples but I have a feeling Riot won't be balancing them too much any time soon because the flashy plays with high mobility is kinda of a much needed wow factor in the LCS. I get it. But then on top of that, they are nerfing semi-tanky to tanky melee champs that could possibly provide some counterplay to these high mobility champs. Not to mention the laughable nerfs to champs that had nothing wrong with them to begin with because they would brick wall high mobility champs cough veigar cough. I understand the need to add counterplay to veigar but with the changes to his stun there is no counterplay left. I mean, now when people are caught in the circle they remain calm, avoid skill shots to the best of their ability and walk away once the walls are gone. That does not seem right. A proper balance would have been something like, if they are caught within the walls then spell damage from veiger is increased by a small % but if they are stunned then the bonus damage does not apply, or something else to that effect, you get my point. When balancing a champ, don't nerf them so hard that there is no counterplay left. Or if you plan to adjust their kit then, work on it and release it in a later patch, instead of nerfing the champ right away because they had a few good showings in pro play.
Back to the topic of nerfing champs that don't need adjusting and ignoring broken champs because high mobility and flashy plays.... what the hell have you done to Kassadin!? Lol, he's not even Kassidin anymore at this point. I mean, first nerf null sphere because too much poke damage for melee, then removed rift walks silence (I get this one, good nerf), then take away null sphere's silence and reduce it's damage even more, then buff and simultaneously nerf null sphere because oops, then increase rift walks cd, then decrease it's range!? He used to be considered the mobility champ, alas no more. Lol, make up your mind. If you want, just delete Kassadin from the game and come out with a new champ that you're happy with. Stop ripping him to shreds. Also to those defending these changes, there are champs like leblanc, that have extremely low cooldowns on extremely high mobility abilities, in the case of leblanc, the equivalent of 2 flashes (w+r) in the span of a second (technically 4 flashes if she hops back to her pads). So you get my point, focus on mobility champs that are actual problems.
I'm sure I'm missing many other examples so please feel free to list them below.
Again I conclude this by stating that these are merely my opinions. I'll respect your decision to disagree with them. What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
TL;DR: Riot, great job on making League a team game, bad job on balancing champion gameplay, destroying good champs and ignoring broken champs.
