Playing Ranked "With" New Champs

This isn't your usual "DON'T TAKE NEW CHAMPS INTO RANKED" ranting. This is a little PSA, a bit of advice. Regardless of whether you're a veteran or a newbie. Before you go head-first into Ranked, after a new champ has rolled out, learn how that champion works. Whether you got to fight with it, as it, or against it. It makes so many headaches go away. No one says you need to learn and master every champ to be a pro, but you should have a basic understanding of how each champion works, even if you don't play as them. Cause good chance, you'll be playing WITH THEM.

The recent release of Yuumi, is Kalista headaches 2.0. You got people who don't know their ass from their elbow, but its worse when they don't know a single mechanic of your champion. You try and engage, they're running off. It be the equivalent of being a Mega Gnar or Malphite about to Ulti a sure kill, 1 ULTI, 5 VICTIMS! Your teammate(s) high tail it, cause they never seen your champion, and don't realize you're opening up a world of hurt, a 5 second death knell, as the enemy team is unable to do a thing. THey're all knocked-up/Stunned. But... your ally ran off, you die and they go "Sorry, I don't know how your champion works" sigh

Oh boy, do I feel you. As a Mordekaiser main there is nothing more tilting than your team starting drake without you when you ping them 10 times and ask them to wait just to see the drake dying 3 seconds before you can get damage on it. And don't even get me started on Zoe's sleep and balloons....

This on so many levels.

I don't ask you to understand every last intricacy of my champion. I'd like you to at least know the basics of what I can and cannot do as a general rule (So at least know that I can't peel the assassin off of the ADC as a Nasus, but that I can kill him after he goes in), then trust me about the specifics of that champion. Sure, I'd like you to already know that I'm not planning to fight without Sheen except to pick up Grasp stacks now and then, but at least be aware that if I ping you away from the enemy champion that you're on your own, except for me possibly throwing a W or E at the opponent.

And even if you don't know every champion, at least make the effort to learn each class and lane, since that can at least work in place of specific knowledge.

I have actually done this in the past. One I learned how about 40 champs worked I decided to go ranked and got put against a skarner jungle. I had no idea how to play against him. Looking back, I realize that I still only know about 80% of the champs in the game, so I’m currently going on a quest to get every single champion to at least 2000 MP. Then I should understand how to play with or against any champ in my games.

This is literally so annoying as Neeko. Imagine getting a 10/10 5 man ultimate and your team ran the other way the moment you engaged. It sucks. Not to mention being flamed for it.

Honestly, the champion is actually busted. There is no counterplay to this stupid cat. I have had this champion solo carry games harder than any support ever could just because the kit is busted. I can't wait to see this in pro play when they disable it week one. This is Ivern 2.0, people are starting to get the hang of her, and shes kinda absurd with just a bit of getting used to, what happens when people have 100-200 games on her? Get ready for hotfix nerfs, cause they will come within the next month.

Unfortunately, the people queuing ranked with champions they've never played probably aren't reading the forums.

Eh, I stand by the fact that you should not be allowed to play a champion in ranked (so long as there are normals) until you have a certain level of mastery on them. Doing so is trolling your team.

Also, I would suggest at least taking every champion into Practice Tool and seeing what the abilities do before playing Ranked. Even if there are over 140 champions, this does not take long total.

tbh this is a lot of horseshit i first timed champs in ranked before and won! even more than with other "trusted" champs I had if you going to get autofilled chances are you don't have any experience in the role or the champs pool so you pick something easy and op

I mean, people know how Malphite works and this still happens so...

Tbh I'm quite sure that teammates would run away even if they knew new champion abilities eitherway. Not too many ppl know about follow-up. And even less know when you disengage. It's either way too passive-aggresive poking from afar, or "even if I die, I'll not run away" way of thinking.

This was the reason why I gave up playing tanks, ever, since season 3~. Their (and supports) power lies within teammates IQ, which usually fails.
