Level 6 and 7 mastery isn't actually mastering?

So basically it no longer matters how many points you have on a champion...? You just earn these levels by getting a silly coin for an S- or better? That totally makes sense when the whole point is about how much you've played and "MASTERED" the champion. Also not digging how you actually have to hover over to see how many points I have, too.
