How the fuuck do I rank up?

So, Last year (2016) I got placed into Silver 4. I used to get like 30 LP if I win, and lose 15 or 20 LP when I lost. By the end of the season, I dropped to Silver 5 and I only got like 15-18 LP if i won and lost 15-20+ LP if I lose a game. My MMR went to shiit because I kept on losing more games than I won. I would have dropped to Bronze 5 if I kept on playing ranked games. I wanted to stay in Silver, so I did not play as much ranked.

I truly believe that I am decent enough to be in Silver. I am decent at CSing, my gameplay mechanics are decent. I only play the champs that I am really, really comfortable with, when I play ranked.

In most of my ranked games, I do good in Laning phase. Sometimes I get countered, or outplayed etc and have a really bad game, that is on me, I get it. However, when, in most games I do have a really good laning phase and lose the game because other lanes fed too much or troll, a f k etc, what can I really do in that case?

You guys might say, You are bad at carrying, even if you do well and get fed in laning phase, you can't carry your team. Maybe I am, according to some standard, but, it is super hard to carry a game when team is behind.

I am not really trying to play the blame game and blame others for the games that I lose. I still try and think, what else I could have done, I was the fed one, maybe I should have tried harder etc. But these games that I lose, even after winning lane and getting fed, those games make me feel terrible and are the reason I can't rank up.

How the hell do I rank up if this keeps on happening. It is just like an endless cycle in hell so to speak.

Honestly, I found that Silver games would generally just devolve into ARAMs where both teams group around an objective at random. At that point, they would just stand off against one another until someone got caught out and a teamfight started.

As such, I'd recommend picking simple (reliable) champions with a strong mid-game presence in teamfights, safe waveclear/farming, potent poke/burst and/or strong CC. If they are strong laners, that is a massive bonus.

Examples?

MonkeyKing Very capable of snowballing in the mid-game due to how potent his ultimate is in teamfights. He is great at bursting down targets while knocking up the enemy team and shredding their armor.

Ziggs Lux Excellent waveclear, poke and catch potential. They can easily stall out sieges and poke the enemy team down before fights while possessing burst damage and utility. If your team falls behind, they are great at delaying the enemy team from taking objectives until your team recovers.

Irelia Renekton Very useful at dominating lane through the mid-game and bursting down targets. They are rather bulky and can require a significant amount of resources from the enemy team to take down.

Vi Hecarim Olaf Strong ganks and farming during the laning phase and potent dive potential during teamfights. They are great at picking an opponent and horribly murdering them during fights while being rather difficult to stop. In addition, they can snowball extremely hard through kills and/or farm and outright take over a game.

Amumu Sejuani Great initiation and lockdown for teamfighting, decent ganks, high durability and good sustained damage for tanks. They can become extremely difficult to kill, leaving your team free to deal damage while you lock down opponents and draw attention.

Obviously, these will all require you possess the skill to climb out of Silver and aren't necessarily "freelo".

However, this should hopefully help you identify some common weaknesses of players in Silver, how you can take advantage of them and qualities you want to be looking for in a champion.

Actually last season, quite a few gold games which I spectated on were starting to look like ARAMs too. Perhaps there is a reason why Riot is re-jigging the rating system for Season 7. :)

Yeah, my apologies if I was a little vague or rambling but it can be a hard subject to really summarize and I was rather tired.

tl;dr The easiest way to climb is to identify common patterns in your games (MMR range) and figure out how to take advantage of them.

For Silver, I found that the most common mistake was how players would constantly and randomly group. To exploit this, champions with the following qualities are extremely useful:

  • Strong mid-game since many players don't know how to properly shut down opponents during the laning phase and you can build an advantage to dominate mid-game
  • Hard CC to (dis)engage fights and lock opponents down. Possessing hard CC (especially AOE) is exceptionally useful for dictating when fights occur, giving you more control over the game.
  • Safe waveclear to stall sieges and protect objectives, giving your team time to recover and preventing the enemy from extending their advantage
  • Safe poke to weaken enemies before fights truly start, forcing them to back off or try to engage at half health.

While there are many other qualities to consider, those are the four I consider to be the most important in Silver ELO.

While I would always recommend playing champions you enjoy, consider looking for champions with those qualities and adjusting your playstyle to properly take advantage of their strengths.

I never understand these threads. Its extremely easy to carry lower elo, if you cant climb, you probably belong where you are.

It's not that easy to carry at low elo's. At least it's not as easy as it was in the past - unless you are grouped with some actual friends who know what to do. These days it takes at least two to three players who actually know what they are doing to actually win games in lower tiers. (And I'll never really understand the deniers either. ;) )
