I find here rather enjoyable top, and was a Cass main before I became an ARAM addict. That being said, here are a few things:
-
start Q and tear, and just land your Q on champions whenever they CS. Miss a few CS if you have to that first level, but land the Q. with AP runes and masteries, it hurts at level 1. Be a jerk in lane, and land the Q.
-
When you hit level 2, take a point in E, then consider your opponent. Squishy mage/someone with no MR/someone with no escape? Land a Q, then go to town. You kill them at level 2, because their jungler is no where, and Cass has the best level 2 and 3 in the game. Laugh as they die (yes, even beats riven. easy) Even if you don't go in at 2, save your mana, and go at 3. DO NOT TAKE W AT 3! take another point in E, the damage goes up a lot, and helps.
-
CS with E. Every time its off CD and you don't plan on going all in. EVERY SINGLE CS YOU CAN. 2 reasons: 1, it builds up your tear, 2, it refunds mana that you're using to poke with Q. Bonus points if you can hit minions and a champ with Q for an E reset when CSing.
-
You are an immobile mage. unless you have eyes on the jungler, or are guaranteed the kill, you don't pass the middle of the lane without wards. That being said, if you get caught out by the jungler post-6, you have options. If you have the mana, and your laner/the jungler is low(as it should always be, you are a lane bully) walk/flash so that both enemies are on the same side of you. Then drop the bomb combo: Q->W->R->EEE->Q. At this point one of them should be dead, and the other running for their life. Remember, Q AND W before R.
-
A quick point that no one gets early in Cass. Your W is faster than your Q. When you hit W, the poison is laid instantly, even if the animation does not. If you wanna trade properly to kill when they're dodging Q's, W->E->Q(they're now slowed)->EEE
-
When you get to late game, you are now an ADC. You do not engage (unless you have an epic chance with your ult. do not try this until you know its range, and that it won't be dodged by anyone with any kill potential) but instead stay back. Youtube "faker picks cass" and watch his team fights. he runs like hell when hes in danger, then unloads. Q for single enemies, W for groups. Save your ult when you can, its your only self peel.

You bring unreal power to taking baron/dragon. that being said, holy moly the mana costs. If our team is short objective power (bad adc with an AP mid since i play top) i like the
&
build. Note: This is a super late game build. If you are winning lane hard, do not do this. it lets them come back. If you're just even, or flat behind though, this will turn you into a late game monster.
-
My preferred build:
(holy shit this thing is insane on her)
/
/
(generally pick one of these decently early, she needs the defense. I suggest crystal if the other team doesn't have an assassin, the slow just makes you brutal in lane)
(mandatory late game and then either
or a straight defensive, like
or
, depending on what you need to do. If their power players itemize defense, go with the pen/tank burn. If their team goes with power, get the defense, you have to survive the team fights. Do not get trapped by the pitfall that is
, Your passive will give you more regen from flat AP, and the AP loss that you take by not picking another power item is not worth it.
That's everything off the top of my head, if you have any questions beyond that ask away, cass is an extremely fun champion.
