It's way harder to rank up in Silver this season

In the past seasons, we started with 1 or 2 divisions lower than the previous season. Like I got to gold V in season 7 and started in season 8 at silver II and claim up to gold V. Now this season, I got reset to silver IV and it feels impossible to rank up with the new LP system. Last season when I'm in silver II, each win is about 23 LP and loss is about 17 LP. This season when I got to silver III, it is 17 LP each win and 18 LP each loss! The losing LP is too much and the gaining LP is not enough to make it feel any less grinding! There is a theory that if your win/loss ratio is around 50%, the game will think that you belongs to certain LP level. So the more you play in a division, the less LP you will gain and lose. Like when you start at a new division, each win/loss is worth more LP than when you play 20 games in that division. But that suck for people who try hard to get to the next rank. It's feel weird that there is a penalty when you playing too many games.
Then there is another theory that the LP depends on your winning/losing streak. This is also suck this season. I got a loss at top which is my second worst position, and loss another game at support which is my best position. If the loss at support has this losing streak penalty then it defeat the purpose of position rank. Isn't it the loss at the least performing role should count less against you? Then someone told me that the LP depends on who you play with, like if you lose against a team overall lower rank than you then you would be punish more. Make sense, but I've seen many games where one person could break or win the games by his own. So team rank is somewhat unreliable to justify a person's performance. What's your experience so far? Do you think Riot should adjust the LP system soon?

You have to remember a huge chunk of the bad silver players are now in bronze so the skill range in silver is different now. So if you previously went even in silver you may not now.

Essentially all lower tiers got moved to the next tier below. So low gold has now become silver, low silver is now bronze. Also, yes the LP system is crap. The more you play the more the algorithm "sticks" you to a certain ELO making it harder and harder to climb out. Take me for example, I gave up trying to climb years ago and so now even with a 65% win rate I'm barely climbing at all because I've been in a lower elo for a long time.

Yes- this new elo system is even more bogus than the last one. Basing ones ELO solely in losing or winning a 10 man match that lasts ~30 minutes is such hog wash.

As far as I understand the position ranks should be separate. So 5 losses as top shouldn't affect your other roles other than the 5 times however much LP you lose in your off roles. Aka like 5 losses as top equates to 1 loss in bottom. Again, my understanding is the algorithm assigns you an ELO and then the more you play the more it essentially tries to keep you there (a win streak will be less and less LP as you get each next win since you're climbing away from your "true elo" and losses would be less and less) However, your ELO will begin rising after say 20 matches of 70% win rate.

LP tracks your ELO, not necessarily your wins and losses (I think, we're not privy to the formula they're using).

You were previously favoured +4LP as the system thought your shown rank was below your actual rank. The system now thinks you are just ahead of where you should be at, thus -1LP as your rank might be equal to, or slightly lower than, your shown rank.

ty for the heads up though, might be in a similar position as you, so might have to start my climb to gold to 'get it over with' sooner than I had intended.

my overall is a 52% win rate for the season which dropped from 60+ when i was climbing from my placements which screwed me over. I was gold 4/5 at the end of last season and got placed into iron 1. I'm gold 4 right now and I gain like 15lp per win and 22lp per loss its so annoying. I just lost my promos to get to gold 3 last night and i hate that i have to win 2 games to make up for every one loss.
