I don't even play Aatrox but what happened to him infuriates me. Not because I think that aatrox didn't need a rework(which I didn't think he did because people could play him to a decent degree and make him successful, just look at his win rate before the rework), but because this isn't aatrox. This is a champ that could have been released as a completely new champ and still be different enough from Aatrox that no one would have realized that it started out as a rework. It does not keep anything thematically about the old Aatrox's abilities except his passive that was just changed to his ult and is even worse now because of it. Any champ main will always be skeptical because of riot's reputation with reworks. Very few reworks have been able to take what made a champion loved by its main player base and keep it through the rework. Notice i'm not saying their reworks are bad or make the champion bad, but that the majority of reworks change what the champion is so much that they aren't even recognizable anymore. In gbay's newest video, he talks about the new aatrox rework from the point of view of someone who just plays aatrox every now and then, but the main point he brings up is that if you can tell what the champion rework is from the abilities by just explaining them, then a rework is successful. It doesn't matter what the rework does to pull them into the meta, it doesn't matter what the flashy things the rework does, it only matters that riot keep the base gameplay of what the champion was, and nothing of what actually made aatrox who he was made it through in the rework which makes it a failed rework. Aatrox isn't the same champion anymore. His kit is completely different. Instead of playing more like a Jax, he plays like Riven, which was never a comparison you couldn't make before. I'm not saying the rework is bad, but it is one of, if not the worst rework that riot has done to this point. And a champion being fun is completely subjective. whats more fun to you might not be more fun to another person, and i'm very sure that the majority of aatrox mains are in the same boat because of the nature of the rework. I think that the idea of the abilities is absolutely fine, but it shouldn't nor didn't have to be Aatrox.
