I can't deal with automatic smart cast

I have been trying to learn karthus lately, but just like yasuo (which I also dropped for the same reason) I can't get used to the automatic smart cast on q, I have tried going into the settings and changing it to quick cast, but even when I do it does nothing. I usually hold down abilities to see the range, and especially on my main (cass) I need to know the exact hit box of my q when trying to escape, because usually if I miss it i can't escape. I find the same thing happening as i need to land my q on karthus but whenever I go to hold down q and see the hit box it goes off instantly. It's really making me mad that I can't disable it.

So personally I play with "Automatic smart cast" on everything, but I also have Smart Cast w/ range indicators bound to Shift + (whatever key). This means that I can either cast my spell instantly or I am able to see the range of my spell and still cast it quickly. Sadly, if I'm not mistaken, it doesn't work on Karthus and others, but in general it helps for me

Sadly, it is. The only way that you can control the range of those 2 spells is to click the spell from the HUD, which is not phesable to do while in a game.
