Why should the friends of players with a low priority queue be punished as well?

To clarify: I do not care about the wait time. I only care about not being able to edit my runes/masteries while I wait.

One of my friends is in a low priority queue. So when I want to play with him I have to wait 20 minutes. That's not the issue. My issue is, while waiting in this queue I can't manage my runes and masteries. If I wanted to change my runes/masteries I would have to leave the queue and reset the 20 minute wait timer. I can understand if the player with the low priority queue is unable to edit their runes/masteries to punish them, however I don't understand why I should be punished as well.

For those who aren't aware; When you queue up with someone with a low priority queue, a popup comes up (similar to the one that comes up with a 6 min wait timer if one of your friends has dodged a queue recently) and displays the information about the low priority queue, the reason for it, and who is to blame for the queue. The only option at this point is to click the "leave queue" button at the bottom of the popup. You can literally do nothing besides sit there in queue for 20 minutes. I just want to edit my runes/masteries. I can see if the person with the low priority queue is unable to do this, but I don't see why I can't manage them while we wait.

I'm hoping this is just an unintentional feature/bug of the low priority queue and can be fixed soon. If there is a half-decent reason for it, please enlighten me (passive-aggressive connotations applied to this statement).

4:54PM Edit: I didn't really intend for this to become a debate about riot's philosophy behind the punishment of players. I'm merely annoyed at the trivial fact that we are unable to do anything besides leave the low priority queue while we are waiting, and thought it odd that riot would choose to implement this feature. This doesn't seem like something riot would intentionally do and therefore might in fact be an unintentional feature of the low priority queue.

Because otherwise someone who's punished with a low-priority que can get out of it by queing with friends. It's simply another reason to, for lack of a better description, not be an asshole.

I think you are missing the point, and it may have been because of my initial phrasing but allow me to clarify. I don't mind the 20 minute wait time. I don't even care if my friend can't manage his runes/masteries while we wait, it's his fault for leaving too many games. All I want to do is edit my runes/masteries while we wait in the queue. I can't do that because the popup that tells me that I'm in a low priority queue blocks me from doing anything except for leaving the queue itself and resetting the 20 minute timer.

Ah ok, the focus of what you meant by 'punishment' I misinterpreted, so yes I was missing your main point, sorry.

You're missing the point entirely. There's a big window with the timer that pops up on your league client when you queue with a friend in low priority queue. It prevents you from doing anything until the queue ends, including browse the store, manage runes and masteries, set up item sets, or whatever.

I can understand this penalty for the person who's being punished, but having the people he queues with suffer is very dumb.

I posted this under the bug report board as well but the feedback is very limited. I'm surprised more people aren't frustrated by this. I submitted a ticket to riot a few days ago and they told me to post here :/

I made a bug report about it awhile back but all I got was a lot of uninformed responses from people saying "it's supposed to be that way" without understanding what I meant. Sort of like we have in this thread, actually.

Noticed that today, too. Why should we be punished for something our friends did. I get not being able to start the game because of the friend. But I can't browse the store, modify my runes/masteries, talk to other friends, my client is useless while I wait because my friend left a game. I think counter should happen for the other person but not affect your friend's clients.

I can see it being intentional as a form of peer pressure. It's working too because it annoys you, so you're going to badger your friend to not get stuck in low-priority so you don't have to deal with it. And unless your friend is a jerk he's going to feel bad about sticking you guys with this crap as well, further decreasing the odds he'll be put in low-priority again.

I see your point, but I think the whole idea of the 20 minutes wait queue is to punish only those who left the games, not the friends of those who are being punished. I am fine with waiting in the queue with my friend because that's what friends do. I just don't see how preventing us from editing our runes/masteries while we wait should even be applicable to the people who are not being punished.

The fact that not being able to change runes and masteries bothers you this much is the point. Because you find it so annoying, you will be more likely to try and make your friends not get put back into low priority, as you don't enjoy dealing with all this.

I can't babysit my League friends though. All I know is, they don't leave games when I'm in queue with them, I can't control what they do when they're playing by themselves or with other people.

Thing is, people won't put up with that forever. This way, people who leave games even when their friends are not there will still lose friends.

True, but I don't even have any way of knowing they're in low prio before we click "Start Game" and it says "you must wait 5 minutes!"

Even if the pop-up preventing friends from using runes/masteries isn't a problem, shouldn't I at least know who's in low prio before I accept?

It has a warning that they are in low priority, and gives you a chance to leave.

Only after we've already accepted and are in queue. It's quite awkward to be like K BAI... usually I don't mind waiting a bit. The problem is that I can't do anything at all while I wait for them.

Yeah, it should warn you when you first join a lobby with them. But still, you could always back at after you see the warning.

To be fair though, in this situation they also may get mad at Riot and use it as another reason they don't like the game and stop playing.

Why can't you change your runes or masteries? It doesn't knock you out of que. If you have 20 mins that is more than enough time.

Basically it comes down to this. Do you enjoy playing with your friend who is toxic? If yes teach him to not be toxic in game. (Use skype or something so you can be toxic vocally and not through typing) If no, tell him the reason you don't que up with him. (he's an asshat in game)

Yeah, this is honestly the only part that frustrates me. If I'm not the one in low-prio queue, I want to be able to chat, edit masteries and runes. I'm not the one being punished for leaving, after all.

Well if YOU have a low priority queue, you shouldn't have to restart the whole 20 mins because someone in your group didn't accept. This happened to us 3 times in a row and we waited an HOUR to play until he just logged into our friends account instead. RITO PLS
