Mana Flow Band - Wasted when on 100% mana and ways to fix this

I just tried it on Sona with Mana Flow Band for a few games and I gotta say it felt really unreliable and just plain bad alot of the time.

A few times I was pressing E to run out of base and it would proc wasting its effect. Even if I didn't E to save the band effect, it would literally just save me 1 spells worth wasting half of its effect.

I purpose suggestions to fix this

An easy solution **1) **making it only proc when under or a spell would put you under a % mana (like 30%)

A more reliable rune _ **2) **making it happen every 50-20s (lv1-18) but only negating 50% spell cost and 2% mana back (this would make it feel more reliable and you wouldn't be wasting its effect when you use it on 100% mana) _ Some elaborate fix rework **3) **letting it give you over cap that decays or any mana it would give you overcap becomes a shield.

**4) **A combination of these, a rework or some alternate will add good ones from comments.

Do others agree with this problem? How would you change this keystone?

There are some complaints about it proc'ing in the fountain, and they may or may not have been addressed, however outside of that it is nowhere near wasted at 100% mana, since the ability costs 0. I don't disagree that it could be better, but it's already one of the best runes, so it doesn't really need any buffs.

Ive been playing around with Nocturne top, and I gotta say this rune alone makes Noct top a really solid choice. The only thing that's ever held Nocturne back as a laner, was his longevity problems(mana issues).

Mana Flow Band completely solves that problem.

I agree it doesnt need a buff it just feels wasted sometime and that could be fixed.

What about being allowed to use the spell even when you dont have mana but you ahve the mana flow band proc?

It isn't a waste at 100% mana; it keeps you at 100% mana. So you don't get a little bit mana back when you're full, but who cares; you're full mana, you don't need that 8% back anyways.

Making it give 50% of the spell cost and 2% mana back would put it right up there with minion dematerializers, ie being the most unused rune currently. Making it only activate under a certain amount of mana makes it useless up to the threshhold point, making it a very unattractive rune since most of the time you're above that threshhold, and if you get below it, chances are you're gonna back soon anyways. The only thing that would make it more reliable would be reducing its cooldown, but then you run into the problem of all mana items becoming obsolete; you'd be surprised how much mana this thing gives you over the course of a game.

Using this on Sona, or anyone who spams for that matter, isn't going to feel like this is very impactful because you're relying on something with a 60 second CD to refund a single spell cost ontop of 8% mana back. Someone who spams like sona just burns through the mana before it's back up again. It's more impactful on champions that have longer spell cooldowns / higher mana costs. If you want something decent in lane for sona, invest into the precision tree as the 2nd tier and use presence of mind. Assuming you remember to time your spell CD's with your level ups, it can make a huge difference for your lane phase, since you can freely spam all your spells for 5 seconds after a level up / takedown without worrying about mana at all.
