Why doesn't Riot just revert champ breaking nerfs/buffs?

The title is self-explanatory. It seems like Riot will nerf champions or make "changes" that put champs into trash tier. Why not just revert the change, and try another fix next patch? I've also seen quite a few champions get buffed, become broken and then are proceeded to be nerfed till they're not viable again. It really seems like balance is not an end goal, when some champs have 50%+ban rates, and others have

Because it doesn't solve the problem. Azir was a problem with easy poke and high damages. Changing him back wouldn't have been healthy for people who had to play against the pain he was.

Breaking him, doesn't fix anything either. You can argue back and forth, but the PBE is supposed to weed out these bad changes. How they're making it to live is beyond me. However, Riot should own up to these changes and act swiftly to correct them, rather than waiting weeks to see a fix. Most of the time these fixes don't even work.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. PBE is not for weeding out bad/good ideas with champions. It's just bug finding. (And takes feedback on skins) But that's it. They don't use PBE to balance test, not like people think they would anyways.

Then if you're correct, I see why they have such a hard time balancing. They really need to do SOMETHING, whatever it is. Right now the "balancing" in League is just not the best.

balancing? they are too busy trying to put out more champs instead of balancing the champs that already exist. That's their problem

when a champion gets changed (nerfed or buffed) its ussually so fix something that unhealthy for the game, so they don't revert changes because then you just revert the fix to previous instead of fixing the new problem

I completely understand your reasoning, and it makes sense. Though what we're seeing is champions getting gutted, and then being pieced back together in several patches which take weeks! My suggestion may not be the best, but I see it as a better alternative.

i see your reasoning too, seeing a champion just get crushed in one patch for counterplay issues (kassadin, veigar kinda, olaf) really hurts especially if you play that champion, but i think in the long run building them back up is the correct way to go. i think the problem is Riot right now tends to be slow to build champs back up or even sometimes just doesn't for a long time.

like remember what happened to olaf? he got nerfed super super hard and wasn't fixed for over a year, that really sucked for olaf players. and while i think riot is doing better then the past when it comes to follow up (veigar buffs next patch look promising) i think they can still be more speedy with patches, i'd hate to be a veigar main and feel like picking my champion is a hindrance to my team or something.

like what if they did their big patches, and then like a next week follow up patch with more mild number tunings to keep the damaged champion in the game. (like a patch 5.45 or something)

tl:dr i agree with riots way of fixing champions and not just undoing changes, but it needs to be faster so its less painful for players of those champions.

Often, they make these changes to change the way a champion works. It's often not balanced when that process is finished. Numbers tuning and other changes may be necessary to buff the champ back up.

Veigar is a good example. Riot's primary goal wasn't to make him balanced; he WAS balanced. The goal was to make him fun to play with and against. He was already fun to play, now he's fun to play against, but weak. They are going to buff him some more to hopefully make him fun to play. They fixed the problem he had. They created another. If they are able to fix the second problem, he will be better off for it.

So, to directly answer your question for the Veigar case, they aren't going to revert the changes because there was a problem that needed fixing. They are committed to fixing that problem.

However way you spin it, the reality is that Veigar has been weak for weeks now. Same thing goes for other champions. If I wanted to get anything across from what I'm saying is that, Riot really needs to think these changes through. If they really are champ breaking, then it's time to rethink rather than letting the change go through and have people wait weeks for a change to their main champ in this case Veigar.

Well, I disagree. I think Riot, based on the fact that the changes went through, has a similar opinion. It's better in the long run for him to be weak for awhile. There's over 100 champions. The game can handle it.
