Was it your premade ally, or just a teammate matched with you? They must be in your premade to earn a chest for you.
You also earn a chest for the champion you are playing, not the one they are. If you've already earned a chest for the champion you're playing this season, you can't get another one. You can check your Champion page to see what has already earned one.
You also must own that champion.
You also must have 1 of your 4 chest slots available, which you can check on your profile page.
