Just Voicing my Opinions

To preface of this wall of text im just gonna say... i love league as a game and as a concept but riot needs to decide what the goals are and realize that simply banning players doesnt fix the problem because players acting out is just the symptoms of frustration they have towards things that really shouldnt be a problem.

most of us know that treating someone with disrespect is wrong and i want to believe that most of us realize that league isnt perfect and never will be. however when players are frustrated with things like those listed here they have a tendancy to get angry at others or yell on reddit about how X champ is overpowered or how my teammates are Garbage because they need to focus their fury at something and having someone agree with you is comforting.

Alot of things listed below are from my perspective reasons why people in league always seem to default to the "My teams Fault" responce and why people Rage at eachother so much. People know they can do better but they also know there are alot of things that are out of their control that honestly shouldnt be i understand your random teammates wont be perfect but being trapped with them only makes the situation worse.

We need to look at Problems and Stop treating the symptoms. nothing is worse than a feeling of being helpless.

I'm Going to Sum up my Problems with League in a Few Simple Points and then explain each of them

  1. Teamwork > Skill
  2. Matchmaking
  3. Champ Select

First off why Teamwork > Skill. Ever since e-sports have been getting bigger and bigger riot has pushed ranked into more and more of a team focused game and on many occasions taken the idea too far (remember Dynamic Queue?) while i can understand the benefit of doing so it has created a few specific issues. the first main problem i see is that individual skill is meaning less and less and things like team comp and communication have become more and more important now that in itself isnt a bad thing, except when you try to force it on the league community. issue with that is when you think about decision making with so much emphasis on "TEAM" you realize that even if your making the "right" decision it wont matter if your team doesnt agree. it teaches bad habits because it rewards players for making bad decisions just because their team will do it too. and then when they get higher rank their teams make different stupid choices. and if the enemy makes a "wrong" decision but all do it together and your team has 2 different plans and 3 people have the right idea and 2 dont they will beat you because they were more syncronized and you weren't. and trust me talking to your team to try and communicate doesnt work because someone will disagree and league players dont know how to respectfully disagree in league having a different opinion is like threatining to stab someones best friend and as soon as that happens all hopes of team synergy is gone. it got to the point where about 6 months ago I moved my chat window off the screen. i grabbed the top right corner and dragged it to the bottom left of the screen and have only pulled it back out on a few very rare occassions. this was for 2 reasons first because i was tired of having to type /mute all every game and second because even when i diddnt have to mute all chat was never anything useful. solo q and lcs are 2 very different games. most people dont play soloq ranked to make friends its a SOLO gamemode and they are playing to win. a player that is better than his peers is actually handicapped unless he is WAYYY better than them. if you put a low gold in a game with a bunch of mid silvers and then had an enemy team that was all mid silver the gold would be at a disadvantage because of different ideas of what to do and it would make teamwork harder. and even though if you put a high plat in the same situation they could probably solo carry. It creates an issue where you need to be alot better that opponents to overcome the teamwork difference.

TLDR - you get punished for playing different that your team even if your technically right and the skill gap required to overcome this problem is really big.

secondly Matchmaking feels like its making the previous problem much worse. If you start to go on large winning sprees the game seems to unbalance the game the more games you win in a row the worse it gets. everyone knows that if you win a game your rating and mmr go up and if you lose they go down. however if you are on a winning spree the mmr of your opponents goes up faster than that of your allies. and if you are on a losing spree the opposite happens. this is rediculous let bad players lose and good players win dont make games unbalanced just because someone is on a series of wins or losses. Also ... AUTOFILL ... i wanna say i REALLY HATE this feature but i think what i HATE is the way it seems to be implemented in lower elo. in season 7 i player around 600 ranked games and the ONLY times i got autofilled was if i was on a winning spree. if i had won more than 6 games in a row or had a greater than 65% win rate in my past 20 matches in fact i get autofilled more than i get my secondary role. i main jg/top and at this point i just dodge when i get autofilled because im not gonna deal with it. but we will get to dodges later. in my opinion matchmaking should place you with better players if you win and worse if you lose and both teams should be relatively equal. instead it seems to complicate things by making it harder for players who are doing good and not how it should.

TLDR - Winning Sprees Shouldn't punish players to try and lower their winrate.

Last are my issues with Champ Select. Why are my teammates able to ban champs i hover? ... this is already creating an issue where even if its unintentional it can really hurt a team. Why is the penalty for dodging so severe... if my teammate picks a champ they have like 15 games on and have only like a 14% win rate and i dodge not only did i lose lp and have a time penalty but they are still in queue ready to ruin someone elses game. or worse what if you have that guy in champ select who is obviously trolling or playing first time aatrox in your promos? not only do i have to dodge because i dont wanna lose mmr and waste 25 min but they get off free. at least have a way that if you dodge you can give a reason when you log back in. and also why is the dodge penalty get worse when you do it a second time? why should i get punished harder because im unlucky? many many high elo players say dodging is a good option if you have a troll or someone picking a champ they dont know how to play. but why do i have to wait 20 min and lost 10 lp because i just queued up at the wrong time? 3 lp and 5 min is fine but only 1 per 24 hours is basically saying "we know the best way to get better is to play more, but if you dodged today you either lose or dont get to play" what kind of options are those?

TLDR - Dodge penaltys too harsh.

P.S. Also please ignore the horrible formatting i wrote this up in another program lol

Lots of solid points, a few outliers tho. league is 5v5 mostly, so by default it's a team game pushing that point or not it still involves a team. But you are not a team that has developed together should be your point of reference. Either way it's still a team effort, but they are developing a ping system that better communicates team choices which I think will help established where the team is choosing to make a play as a whole.

I don't really think matchmaking is a problem other than clearly the game has plenty of smurfs and I think that leads you to your problems with matchmaking

Lastly I think for ranked ... You are being punished with LP lose so you shouldn't have a high requeue penalty

Oh final note being able to ban a champion regardless of hover I think is ok, because even if you hover you might not have first pick and having to play against something you could have banned is also very tilting

Good observation on the winning streaks matching you with lower players to bring win streaks down. I also noticed that trash autofill only happening on win streaks and determining games in promos. If doesn't matter how consistently you play or objectives you destroy. Riot's system will continuously and intentionally place you in a position to lose.

I feel like Teamwork > Skill is a huge one that goes overlooked, and part of it is due to League's game design and they way they frame their top-tier play (highlighting specific streamers who like to smurf and carry, for example). If they ever get around to doing a huge overhaul to the game, which I feel it needs but won't hold my breath for... Finding a way to reinforce the team mentality would be a huge help.

HotS has shared experience, for example. You know even if you're playing a hyper-carry that your team is important, and subconsciously, it makes you play as a unit more naturally. You want to protect them so they can keep getting you XP. You want to coordinate with them so the team is maximizing their XP gain. If you're laning solo, it's not because you want to be a lone badass who tramples the opponent and can go "Welp, I won my lane" when your team fails you. It's because you're great at farming and sustaining, and that means the rest of the team is free to roam or group up on a specific lane.

This is just one way a game puts the focus on the team over the individual. Riot could stand to implement something that allows for this as well.
