Garen E Change Proposal.

As we all know, The Might of Demacia is getting looked at in a few patches to help him out a little. Most Juggernauts fall off late game, but Garen doesn't fall off.

He falls off a cliff.

One of the reasons I believe this occurs is that Garen has pretty much the least reach out of all the Juggernauts and the least dependable damage.

Nasus Has his E and W to reach past his AA range. Darius has his Q and E to pull people in. Mordekaiser has item 3116 and long ranged abilities. Illaoi has her E. Trundle has a massive zone that boosts his MS and a Pillar for better influence outside his auto range. Olaf has projectile Axes that slow his opponents and an ult that makes kiting impossible. Shyvana has a projectile via her E. Udyr has the same reach as Garen but makes up for it with dependable damage and CC via Bear and Tiger stances. DrMundo has slowing cleavers like Olaf. Volibear has the same reach as Garen but extends it with his ult giving him AOE damage on his autos and missing health damage on his W I believe. Yorick has massive potential damage with his ghouls and his Maiden gives him potential global influence via being a split-pushing god.

Most of these Juggernauts have their niches, and can either teamfight or splitpush well. Garen can't do either effectively.

Garen cannot splitpush well because he cannot knock down towers very quickly. He cannot teamfight very well especially come lategame becuase his basic strategy is to run in, hit W, E, then Q somebody important. That's it. His team usually before then, or his carry gets blown up because he cannot peel for them. He cannot peel and his damage is negligible unless you are the villain. If you find the villain then good luck wading through the enemy team to get to them.

I propose a buff to his teamfighting, after all he is the paragon soldier of Demacia, and they never retreat or perform cowardly tactics like avoid fights and only splitpush. (His passive def needs to be replaced as well, but this isn't the time for it.)

His current E, Spin2Win, deals 33% increased damage to one enemy.

But why does it work this way? After all, look at Garen's quote on his champion page. "The most effective way to kill an opponent is to slice through the man next to him."

Look at what he says when you hit E.

"Break their ranks!"

"I will not falter!"

He wants to be in the middle of the enemy team Spinning2Winning, but by doing that he gimps his own damage to do so. I propose this following change:

#Judgement's damage is increased by 20% for each enemy champion damaged by the ability, up to 100% damage increase.

This is obviously a massive teamfighting buff, and I would be fine with his E no longer critting and the base damage being lowered, but I believe that this would not only help his teamfighting, but also help him to break the enemys' ranks, as they would want to split up to avoid taking extra damage, opening the way for Garen to smite the villain.

This is also a 1v1 nerf, as the bonus damage would only be 20% instead of 33%.

I would prefer they kept the crit in his kit. Its been one of his iconic abilities since release. I think he's also one of the only 3 champions in the game that can crit on their abilities...although I suppose Talon will now be the fourth.

Really? Hmm.

The crit can stay if this doesn't make him overbearing, but Garen usually doesn't build crit so I want to help out the normal Garen build.

I suppose if he does build crit he will be too squishy to live long enough to apply it for toxic levels.

Ok sure but why1 votes

garen transcends the realm of mere juggernaut-hood

what makes garen a good champ is making him good at smashing his way into fights and staying there with moderately higher speeds than the average bear

hence why things like item 3009 item 3742 item 3139 item 3800 are nice on him

keep his crit tho i stg

Never tried him with Scimitar or Righteous Glory.

In fact I would never consider building it because of the wasted mana passive lol.

The active would make it hilarious to chase down the Villain though.

tbh same, i just go summoner 6 summoner 4 and full crit all the time

It's been confirmed that the crit on his E does not take up any of his power budget. It's a hold over from an earlier time that has no negative effect on him.

The reduction of damage on his E when hitting multiple targets was put in because he was too strong, but came before the three nerfs to his movement speed (Q, base, and boots). If his speed is not being looked at he could honestly do with having that damage reduction removed completely. All juggernauts have a threat range, and if you enter that range you are punished. Garen either needs a boost to his ability to punish, or a boost to his ability to put people in his threat range, aka either the damage nerf or the MS nerfs need to be reverted.

Ah, well he can keep his crit then.

I run MS quints on him quite often, so he is definitely hurting for some MS. Unlike most other Juggs Garen can't slow people, only run faster to catch them. A buff to his MS would in turn buff his Q, so I think his MS nerfs should be reverted.

Personally i would like it if garen had an 'offensive passive' somewhere, or if his E gained critical strike chance over the duration. Maybe putting a rank scaling crit on his E that worked only for it? Like 50% crit at rank five during the spin? could make it 10% crit per rank, then, and it would keep garen relevant when he falls off.

Although if a garen gets rolling, hes a splitpush monster.
