my thoughts on poppy support

poppy is a strong counter to other supports who use the bushes most, blitzcrank, thresh. doesnt do so well against super harass supports brand, nami, and bard. she also seems to do well with alot of adc's. carries that seem to counter are longer ranged champs like caitlyn, ashe, and jinx. poppy seems to also excel in securing objectives due to her natural peeling abilities and ult. in teamfights her damage tends to be low considering her low range on abilities. so you pretty much have to play as a body guard. able to punish bad positioning. i think she is much better as a support than a top lane.

She isn't as OP on all of that than you might think. She struggles against poke supports by a hugh marge. She's also weaker against AP lategame because no MR scaling. A poppy support will

  • Struggle against: Ezreal Janna Karma Kennen Morgana Soraka (Zilean in theory)
  • Get limitations against: Alistar Bard Blitzcrank Braum Nautilus TahmKench

With bard recent buffs I would say the lane is actualy in bard's favor. Despite poppy is good against dashes her weakness is still poke so champions like Caitlyn Corki are absolutly not a free win. She's really good against champions like Vayne Lucian Graves that are burst oriënted. But poke over time just destroys her. Poppy is also gated by cooldown making cdr the most important stat on her and every time you can't get that early cdr you will feel it. This makes her really vurnible against camping. Against tank support it's more a skill matchup. Poppy's Q can deal with them but she can't random E anymore.
