did kayle ulti disable heals from aatrox?

my last costum game was aatrox vs kayle and I fight him 2 times the first time he uses ulti when he was half hp and heals works but at the battle 2 he uses ulti with 200 hp and I didn't heal is this bug? and this suposend to be counter because he was close to kill me with big ping and he uses fail ulti not to immune all the big dmg and with out penetration voida stuff and I was with black leaver
