Anybody Else Not Get the Talon Nerfs?
4.18 just really made me think about this.
TL;DR at bottom if you don't like reading.
I enjoy playing mid and I used to main it so I've played a ton of games in matchups against Talon.
Obviously I haven't always played against good players, I'm also Bronze I and barely any ranked games, but even when I did I always thought Talon was strong but never overpowered. The silence offers no counterplay? Yeah maybe it makes it harder to trade but if you play a champion that can aggressively cc him (i.e. Syndra's stun) or a champion that has lane dominance (i.e Orianna), you can definitely trade back. Also, I'm not sure if I missed it somehow but really didn't see the typical "nerf (insert champion here)" circlejerk threads that you typically see about strong picks and if even GD wasn't complaining about it then why nerf?
Recently I've been maining Jungle/ADC and I don't really understand why Riot is nerfing Talon for having no counterplay when Tristana has no real counterplay when you think about it. I'm not being like "hurr durr Tristana 100-0 everyone late game plz nerf" but have you ever noticed how safe her laning phase is?
- point and click DOT harass that increases in range as the game goes
- strong waveclear with explosive shot
- longest distance escape out of every adc
- Multi-hitting Lee Sin kick ulti/nuke that allows for easy escapes
Other late game hypercarries are missing some of these things because they MAKE SENSE. They trade a bad laning phase for a great late game that can carry the team. Vayne has no waveclear and Twitch has no instant escapes or consistent harass damage (he has his W E combo but that's nothing compared to the pokes Lucian, Jinx, and Cait have).
I mean technically you can play a lane bully like Lucian or Caitlyn and push her back to the turret but there's not a high chance that a good Tristana will allow a Caitlyn to get a kill on her. There is very little counterplay to Tristana and the counterplay that there is, is not very strong.
I understand that Tristana is getting nerfed in 4.18 but that just focuses really on her late game scaling. The real nerfs should be on her laning phase because the bad laning phase will justify the huge late game.
TL;DR Tristana's laning phase is way too safe for how well she scales late game so the nerf on Talon for having good trading potential seems wayyy out of place.
