why are towers becoming so useless?

Towers are supposed to be the safe zones for people inside the lanes and diving a tower is basically super easy now because they dont do damage and die so quickly. There is no need to actually be good at tower diving and knowing how to draw turret agro when you can just have tahm or any other meta tank just eat 7 tower shots and have the team kill the tower.

Towers give you advantages, they are not a pvp free zone.

Not really. Early game they are strong enough to protect you, after that you have to protect them. They shouldn't be protecting you after 10-15 minutes.
