[CC] Wirym, the Siphoning Spirit
She's not Ahri in the slightest; if you go in with that notion you'll misread her.
Human and Beast forms--though slightly dated. Human art is actually -really- dated and I'm in the process of redoing it, but I have to post this before I forget to, again.
#Table of Contents (Ctrl+F content inside quotes) "Lore", "Stats and Kit", "Visuals", "Quotes", "Special Interactions", "In a Game", "Changelog", and "Additional Artwork".
(preface? This lore can't work without somebody to tell it. I NEED this structure or else it doesn't get told. Ezreal is, if we're being honest, the explorer. He'd be the one to find something. Please excuse the fact that it's not perfectly accurate, but this doesn't work without some not-Wirym narrator.)
[Also, this post is organized in the order of 'most important' to 'least important' in my opinion to understand this character.
#Lore
Ezreal Writes:
In exploring a countryside, there was a shambling house on the side of a hill. It was clearly abandoned-- inside it, I found a box, with a folder laid atop it. Both the folder and the box were decorated with the same symbols, and inside the folder were many loose papers. On one side the papers were all very neat, on the other all dishevelled and of different sizes. The folder was a journal, from what I could tell looking at it-- I did not recognize some of the symbols, the language too ancient for me to understand.
Having returned to my study, however, there are quite a number of interesting bits of information contained in this journal. Apart from some lore of ancient towns and a myth, a journal-- the writings of the myth in question had the premise that the creature kept a diary, and the symbols on the pages lead me to think that the second section of this journal is actually a transcription of that diary. The diary itself, however, has two copies-- one is written nicely on the same kind of paper in a steady hand, but the other diary--which does have the same content--is written shoddily, the writer's hand sometimes being steady and other times seeming to quiver in fear.
After I translate these pages, I want to go back and investigate the box--it was too heavy to bring back with just me, and was locked shut.
---
I ran. A lot. He'd been dead all of a minute. No pain, a very happy death, no suffering, no blood, no wound.
If it was my job to kill, I would be so perfect-- no trace, just death. They'd know it was me, but have no trail on my location ___or next target.
I'm no murderer. In fact, people are so amazing and happy sometimes-- I can't spend enough time with them ... because they fall dead being near me. It's absolutely the worst feeling. No more pain, suffering, sorrow-- that's all I want And I can't get. Hourly, I'm reminded of it, whenever the bells ring as those bells usually wake me when I fall asleep with another-- and they never get back up Ever.
(little drops have smudged the page and ink above. This is noted as 'cries' in the legible set-- I assume it means 'tears'.)
Sorry. I can't help it. It's hard to write about something so important to me without crying.
I am an amazing killer of the weakwilled. Nothing can save them, especially if they enjoy fur.. or 'favors'.
Nothing will make my past right, but I can try to stop killing. It's certainly an interesting thought-- 'Perfect killer hates killing and thus is trying to let all live happily.'
Oh, the librarian's here. He hates it when I write in these books.
--Wirym
---
I've done this so often. I wonder why I keep doing it. Am I attracted to the librarian? Do I just like running away from people? Hmm; well, I know one thing.
I can't stop killing. People are so... delicious. Delightful. Fun. Filling. Goodness, I haven't eaten actual food in almost a month now. Haven't lost weight, though.
Why does killing them make me feel so full, strong, and good? I'm still not wounding them, just making sure their death is happy.
Maybe girls taste worse. I should try that. May help me quit killing. But what if... they taste better? Then I'll kill more... I think the sleazes nobody minds dying.
I'm lost. Somebody help me. If you want to talk to me, leave a location and when. I don't sleep, so any where at any time is good. You can recognize me because I'll have large ears, whiskers, and a tail.

I (there is a doodle here) wow this paper's different.
I brought my own paper this time. Sorry for writing in the books-- I had nowhere else to write. I feel like I have to write my thoughts down, or else they'll escape. Nothing's gone wrong, I'm still here as you can read-- Do you want me to stay here when you arrive? I I don't know what to do.
Won't somebody help me?
--Wirym
-
Stay if you want. I set these papers out each night; only I have read them. Tell me if that is not okay.
--Librarian, Brian

I'll wait for you 'till the end of time.

Though I have no idea what these writings are supposed to mean, I take it that a rendezvous of some likely romantic nature was supposed to happen--perhaps that meeting was perverted by some other force.
However, in acquiring assistance with the box itself, I found out a few things.
First, that there were three boxes with the same symbols decorating them-- one box has many locks of orange hair and long nail clippings, with some short pinkish hairs. Another box has a few simple outfits-- a dress, some shorts, a few shirts. The last box, however, housed a human skeleton. The clothes on the skeleton were preserved so well-- almost no dust had collected on the outfit, as though it had been cleaned just a few days ago. The skeleton itself seemed like it had been freshly deprived of all its flesh, and almost every single bone was present, laid neatly into their proper locations. The left hand lacked bones for the fingers, interestingly.
~~A Narrative (Wirym's lore as opposed to a teaser)~~
The door to the library opened with a creak-- not quiet and not sharp, but a very natural and nonthreatening sound resonated in the library. A man stood in the doorway, turning on lights.
"Wirym?" He called a single time.
Suddenly, things moved, 'Off in the corner,' he noted, searching the desks for a stack of papers. He couldn't find them, but the shufflng still persisted.
"Who is it?" He declared loudly.
"Umm.. I.. that is..." a voice said. Her voice, he knew. "I'm waiting for a friend!"
"Who?"
"Uhm.." papers shuffled and fell to the floor. "B-Brian." She ran somewhere else.
"Well, I'm Brian, so is it I?"
"You.. are... librarian?"
"Yes, I manage this place."
"I... I don't want you to die. Please don't.. get near me."
"What makes you think I'll die?"
"I am a flawless, perfect, mass-murdering machine," she said with a completely different, 'factual', voice, turning away from him somewhat.
"You sure?"
"Yes! Everyone who comes near me dies!" she exclaimed.
"I will not."
"No! No, you will!" She roared. If the townspeople weren't awake already-- the sun had been shining for a few minutes-- they would be now.
"Come on, I am certain that death will not come so quickly."
"No, but you'll lose track of time and die.. I don't.."
She stopped moving. Brian started moving, quietly, towards her voice.
"Are you sure you want to," she breathed, "I'm sure you don't."
"I'm sure I want to see you at least once," he replied.
"Fine. Look."
He found her at last-- she clutched a stack of papers, some ripped from books that lay on the floor trailed behind her and around. She stood with teary, emotion-filled, attractive green eyes with whiskers growing from her cheeks being hit by the sunlight now-- and two big fox-like ears growing from her head, fur glistening golden in the sunlight. She had on barely enough clothing to be decent-- a torn shirt with the sleeves clawed off, and a skirt that barely went halfway to her knees. No shoes. No leggings. Just a band with a very poofy cuff inhabited her left ankle. Brian, dull as he felt, couldn't express his embarassment at her dress nor how beautiful he believed her to be. As he looked again, he saw two large triangle-shaped tattoos across her face, extending down her throat; and lightly glowing marks all across her body-- even through her clothes-- and highlighting her luscious tail.
"H-Hi.. I'm Wirym.. Brian."
"You couldn't possibly be a killer! This is some kind of cruel joke." His brain was rushing to find a reason-- it settled on her rather emotional appearance.
"No," she cried, a few tears falling from her face as she looked up. "I wish."
"What makes you so sure?"
"I SEE THEM! THEIR LIFE FADES AS I HOLD THEM!" She whined. A book that was precariously balanced somewhere must have fallen.
"Are you sure that you can help it, if killing sates you, like you wrote, you're likely eating some part of them."
"N-not that I'm aware. What.. what are you saying? Th-that I'm not human?"
"That much is obvious from your lack of ears in alignment with your eyes," he pointed to his eye and traced it to his ear. "And your tail."
"We-well... Then what am I?" She wailed. "If I'm killing, I must be evil, clearly-- do you have a blade?" She was frantic, looking around for something.
"I don't think that killing yourself will help."
"Bu-but I.. if I live, all I'll do is kill!"
People started coming to the library-- her cries were piercing through the small town.
"You are quite loud!"
"I DON'T CARE!!" The library shook almost violently with that roar.
"Hey, calm down! I do not want to hurt you--"
"THEN GO AWAY!"
"What-- you called me out!"
"I NEED YOU TO GO! RUN! I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!"
"Okay, KILL me, then!"
She ran, crying still, into him, almost as if lunging. He wrapped his arms around and held her, tightly.
"No, you won't."
A few people entered the library. Wirym's teary green eyes started becoming a scarlet red, the color entering from her irises.
"I'm hungry," she said, no longer crying.
"That's fine, I will get you something to eat."
"No, no, Brian; I'm not hungry for food. I... they always faint too-- t-th-that is.. I.." her eyes leaked a few tears, then immediately stopped being wet, the last tears leaving when she blinked.
"What? Just tell me."
"I.. I'm... HUNGRY." She snapped up, and into a trance-- her nails grew into claws, her skin became even more distinctly furry, her whiskers and tail grew in length-- and she stood different, more animalistic.
"I.. I NEED... ed.. eTHEM!" She lunged into the crowd. They figured out, quickly, who she was-- any scholar had encountered her writings in the back of books.
They welcomed her, after stepping aside. She was infamous (and not known to be dangerous, they believed the writer was insane and the killings unrelated to one another), and she ran--
"I nfood... but.. you all are--" She ran to the opened window of the library-- and almost jumped out, but fainted trying to climb a wall.
Immediately, people approached and wondered.
---
Wirym woke with a start in a bed. "I can't feel my tail.. legs.. chest.. arms.. why?!" "Oh, you're awake!" Brian said, drinking something as he came in. "I'm... what happened after the library?" "We moved you to the hospital. You thrashed so much the doctors needed help restraining you, and decided to pin down all your limbs multiple times over." "W-wait.. isn't the hospital full of si-sick people? Won't they d-die beca-because of me?" "Even if they do, I'm sure that the doctors won't figure or even think that it is you. Relax," Brian said so very calmly-- as if he denied what Wirym said of being a killer. "Fine." She lay for a few moments, completely relaxed... and she fell asleep again, exhausted.
Somebody entered the room, whom Brian had been talking to before Wirym became conscious. "In all honesty, sir, you two should leave-- those unpleasent ravings will certainly make somebody ask who she is." "Alright, fine. Fine. We'll leave as soon as she can go, is that okay?"
---
"Brian, I'd rather we go immediately," Wirym said, having recovered some strength. "We should wait at least a while." "Don't.. don't let them die--" she cried. "They will not. Rest." "As you wish," she said, allowing herself to fall down onto the bed again.
---
"Wirym, you're sure?" "I wouldn't want to stay any longer, Brian!" "Then... you want to just leave, right?" "Yes," she replied. "I want to leave this all behind. It's... not right." "How," he began, "if I may ask, is it wrong?" "Like... I.. I do not merely think this because I want them to live. I get a feeling in my stomach that this is wrong, that I'm doing something incorrectly." "So, Wirym..." "Yes, Brian?" She cooed. "Er, since you plan to leave here, would you consider making a home with--" "Yes-of-course!" She yelled, exuberant. She jumped into him, almost knocking him off balance. "I-would LOVE to-be-with-you!" "Slow down, please!" He tried to peel Wirym's rushing hands, caressing many of his limbs, off of him, and kept failing.
---
A few months later, having long left the town, lying in a bed in a countryside, Wirym woke up, seeing Brian coming in the room, shadowed by the sun. "Good morning." His breath was very audible. "Hi..." "Are.. you.." he breathed heavily. "Brian, stay awaay! I need you to live..." "It's.. fine.. I won't... go.. so eas-.. easily..." "Yes you will!" "Are you.. happy?" "YES!" "Then so am.. I..." He said, collapsing on the ground. She rushed to catch him, and he died in her arms-- with a gentle, happy expression on his face. "You seem... too happy for somebody who just died. Building this house... it was hard, but fun. It was fun... because you made it fun. I loved it... because you were here. Nothing else mattered much at all... If we were in a forest, a swamp, a city... any place with life and you would be perfect. Is perfect." She stared at her love, making a plan.
In a few days, the house had been completely cleaned up, with only four boxes and a folder, decorated all the same and locked for their protection. "I'm going out, Brian~" she called, waving farewell to the boxes.

Wirym may toggle Commune at level 1, to allow her access to both her Q and Es. She starts in Human form. A more accurate name for 'Hunger' would be 'Salivation' or 'Appetized'. However, I wanted a pair of passive effects that gave "opposite" impressions (At the time, Hunger = more damage, Thirst = self defense).
#Innate Passive: Devourer of Souls
- Absorption Wirym restores Health equal to 50% (33% against Monsters, 25% against minions) of any Magic Damage she deals outside of her activated abilities, including any item effects, as well as the damage from Siphon.
- Lifesharer After 4 spellcasts that hit at least 1 enemy, Wirym's NEXT spellcast restores her and any nearby allied Champions Health. If Wirym does not hit an enemy with a spell for 10 seconds, all stacks are lost. Heal amount per-Champion is decreased based on number of allies healed, but the total healing increases. Only Self: 34 (+5.5 per Champion Level) (+12 (+2.75% per 100 AP) % Missing Health) 2: 22 (+4 per Champion Level) (+9 (+2% per 100 AP) % their Missing Health) 3: 18 (+3.5 per Champion Level) (+8 (+1.75% per 100 AP)% their Missing Health) 4: 14 (+3 per Champion Level) (+7 (+1.5% per 100 AP)% their Missing Health) Full Team (5): 10 (+2.5 per Champion Level) (+6 (+1.25% per 100 AP)% their Missing Health) Hexakill (6): 6 (+2 per Champion Level) (+5 (+1% per 100 AP)% their Missing Health)
#Ability One: Soulstrike / Ki Flare / Hunger
- Soulstrike (Human Active): Wirym flings a siphoning orb in a line, dealing 65/105/145/185/225 (+55% AP) Magic Damage and slowing enemies hit by 30% for 2 seconds.
- Ki Flare (Beast Active): Wirym explodes her sphere in a focused blast, dealing 65/105/145/185/225 (+55% AP) Magic Damage and slowing enemies hit by 30% for 2 seconds in a 30º cone.
- Hunger Wirym gains 1 stack of Hunger for each unit she affects with an active effect or basic attack (3 for damaging Champions or Large/Epic Monsters), up to a maximum of 50 stacks. If Wirym does not damage an enemy for 4.5 seconds, she loses 1 stack each second, increasing by 1 stack lost each second every second.
- This ability does 1% additional damage, has a 1.5% longer slow, Soulstrike gains 10 additional range, and Ki Flare becomes 1% wider for every Hunger stack that Wirym has (50% damage increase or 97.5/157.5/217.5/277.5/337.5 (+82.5% AP) damage, 3.5 second slow, 1250 Soulstrike range, 45 degree Ki Flare cone).
Projectile Speed: 1050 (Cone is instant) Soulstrike Width: 100 750 base Soulstrike Range 525 Ki Flare range 6 second Cooldown Costs 55/60/65/70/75 Mana
-
- Soulstrike and Ki Flare share cooldowns, and after launching Wirym cannot attack or cast spells for 0.5 seconds while she reconstructs her internal orb.
#Ability Two: Commune / Siphon
-
Commune (Toggle Off): Wirym shifts into a more human state, altering her abilities to Soulstrike and Flying Fang. She benefits from 350/375/400/425/450/475 additional Attack Range, becoming a ranged Champion, and restores 3/6/9/12/15/18% of any damage she deals as Mana-- the effectiveness of this mana restore is reduced to 25% against minions (33% against monsters). In this form she keeps herself upright, half-walking half-running as she moves.
-
Commune (Toggle On): Wirym transforms into a more beastial state, altering her abilities to Ki Flare and Prowling Fang. She gains 3.5/7/10.5/14/17.5/21 additional Armor and Magic Resistance, and reducing her unit collision by 25/40/55/70/85/100%. In this form she keeps herself closer to the ground, moving about with hops and jumps.
-
Siphon (Passive): Wirym deals 0/3.33/6.67/10/13.33/16.67 (+1/3 Champion Level) (+4% AP) (+0.667% Bonus Health) Magic Damage each second to enemy units within 600 Range if she has damaged or they have damaged her in the last 3 seconds, or if they are a Champion that can see Wirym. The damage of Siphon is tripled against Monsters, and for other units within 125 range of Wirym, decaying down to the base damage at 575 range against non-Monsters. If Wirym is below 50% Health, Siphon automatically damages nearby Minions.
40/35/30/25/20/15 second cooldown between toggles.
#Ability Three: Flying Fang / Prowling Fang
-
Flying Fang (Human Active): Wirym does a cartwheel for 1 second while she sends her orb through the ground to the target location within 600 range, where it detonates in a skyward blast, Suspending enemies hit for 1.25 second and dealing 50/110/170/230/290 (+60% AP) (+10% Bonus Health) Magic Damage in a 325-diameter area. During the cartwheel, Wirym cannot perform any action other than movement, but is unable to have her walk path interrupted except by airborne-type Crowd Control.
-
Prowling Fang (Beast Active): Wirym leaps through the air while her orb expands and flies along the ground to the target location within 600 range, where Wirym smashes the orb and Suspending any enemies nearby for 1.25 seconds while also pulling them ~125 units closer towards her, dealing 50/110/170/230/290 (+60% AP) (+10% Bonus Health) Magic Damage in a 325-diameter area around the impact point. Wirym cannot move for 0.6 seconds after landing, but generates a 30/50/70/90/110 (+30% AP) (+10% Bonus Health) strength-Shield for 5 seconds if she hit a Large/Epic Minion or Monster, or if she hit a Champion. For every subsequent Champion hit, she generates 10/16.67/23.33/30/36.67 (+10% AP) (+3.33% Bonus Health) additional shields. If she does not hit one of these, she generates 10/16.67/23.33/30/36.67 (+10% AP) (+3.33% Bonus Health) Shields, plus an additional 5/8.33/11.67/15/18.33 (+5% AP) (+1.67% Bonus Health) Shields for every small Minion or Monster hit.
Flying Fang 'Projectile' Speed: 1400 (not actually a projectile, but the delay increases with distance from Wirym) Prowling Fang Dash Speed: 1750 14.5/14/13.5/13/12.5 second cooldown 600 range, costs 85 Mana
-
- Flying Fang and Prowling Fang share cooldowns.
#Ultimate Ability: My Accursed Soul
- My Accursed Soul (Active): Wirym Charms all enemy Champions within 575 range while she channels for up to 2 seconds. After channelling, Wirym gains 100% Movement Speed that decays over 6 seconds. For the next 15 seconds, Wirym gains 50/75/100% Attack Speed and lunges 50 units closer to her target with every attack (before the attack) if she's in Beast form, and in Human form her basic attacks increase the damage the target takes by 2/3/4% for 3 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.
- Thirst (Passive): After casting a spell, Wirym gains converts her next 2 basic attacks to deal 25/40/55 (+20% AP) (+100% Total AD) Magic Damage, but does not benefit from Lifesteal nor Spell Vamp on these attacks (only Absorption applies).
120/105/90 second cooldown Costs 100 Mana
#Visuals
Wirym wears a solid blueish-green sleeveless dress with a short bottom and leather shorts. Her tail, decorated with glowing blue lines, coils out from beneath her skirt, and it tends to slope upward very gently. Her left foot is adorned with a cuff of light green fabric, and is fastened on her foot with a blue belt. Draped over her left shoulder is a semi-transparent blue-green (as opposed to her dress, which is mostly green but a bit more blue than yellow, this is more like 75% blue and 25% yellow-- if that makes any sense) cape that reaches down to her hip. Her chest has a light-blue ball inside of it, which has strings dancing about it that grow in size (thus poking farther out of her body) as she builds Hunger stacks. Her body also has light-blue stripes underneath her skin, which glow with intensity based on Hunger stacks. Her ears are attached to the top of her head as opposed to the sides of her face, and stick upwards like fox ears. The interior of these ears is pink, with very light pink fur tufts growing out of them. Her hair, and the fur on the back of the ears, as well as her tail and the rest of her body hair, are all orange. She has blue-green irises and pinkish pupils, the sclera of her eyes a pristine white. Her eyebrows and eyelashes are slightly orange-- accentuating the green of her eyes. Her cheeks have glowing blue triangles--these triangles taper into lines that adorn her neck and are the same lines that glow over the rest of her body and tail. On her right wrist the fingerbones of Brian's left hand make a bracelet that holds down a poofy cuff that flows both ways (just like the one upon her ankle), and a metallic ring on her right ring finger completes her appearance.
In beast form, her knee twists backwards (such that it is like a fox leg, where the range of motion forward greatly exceeds the range of motion backward-- the exact opposite of the human's lower leg), and becomes covered in a thick coat of white fur. Her feet are replaced with cat-like claws, and she always stands on the balls of her feet in this form (artificially increasing her height). Her tail grows longer as well, and all her fur becomes more white--but not fully white, it remains somewhat orange.

#Taunt (A small water-drop like translucent-ish white-green-gray 'soul' appears above Wirym, flying out of her orb. She jumps and catches the soul with her orb before landing back down. She then leans forward, as if to provoke whoever is in front of her, like the soul she caught was important to them. She then takes it back and puts it behind her along with her hands, turns around and 'snorts'. In Beast form, the tail beckons them; while in Human form her ears twitch.)

She then leaps above it, slamming it into the ground, bouncing up again-- while bouncing, she rotates so that she is on the ground, with her orb above her, and bats it around, like a cat.)

#Special Interactions
Beasts and Beauties (Event) This event is active if Wirym and Ahri are on opposing teams and are the same level. If Ahri levels before Wirym, the event is disabled until Wirym reaches Ahri's level again (and vice-versa).
If Ahri kills Wirym, then Ahri permanently gains a ring around her orb; which
If Wirym kills Ahri, Wirym permanently grows a second tail; which summons a fox-fire every 9 seconds (affected by Cooldown Reduction), dealing 11 (+3 x Champion Level) (+8% AP) Magic Damage to a single opponent.
Soul-Fed Shifters (Audio) This activates whenever Wirym and Ahri are on the same team.
If Ahri kills an enemy during Wirym's My Accursed Soul, Wirym will comment:
- "D'aww, that one was mine!" (only if the kill was done using Ahri's Charm)
- "I thought you stopped eating..."* (otherwise)*
If Wirym kills an enemy that Ahri has Charmed (Not 'Doomed'), Wirym will comment:
- "Haha! Mine now!
If Wirym uses My Accursed Soul on an enemy that Ahri has Charmed, or Ahri Charms an enemy affected by My Accursed Soul, Wirym will comment:
- "Teehee! Two voluptuous ones seek you.. for dinner!"
If Wirym kills Thresh, Wirym gains a stack of Hunger that persists even while Wirym is out of combat. If Thresh even assists in killing Wirym, she loses a persistent stack if available. If Thresh kills Wirym, he gains an extra Soul.
If Wirym is killed by Udyr, she will comment:
- "You.. fight with them..."
- "I'm bested.. at usage.."
If Wirym kills Udyr, she will comment:
- "Your rage's controlled!"
- "Spirits 1, Monk 0!"
If Wirym Taunts near an enemy Lucian, she will use different quotes.

#In a Game
So I have, actually, barely changed her kit at all since her previous incarnation. I just moved things around (Absorption used to be labelled as part of Siphon, but since the effect was available at level 1 in the first place...), which I think makes this less complicated.
But I still am rewriting this gameplay information section as... well, it was bad before. So please tell me if it is inadequate (it almost certainly is).
#Gameplay
Wirym is a unique Fighter, thriving in the center of a battle where she can dole out pain and survive for an extended period of time to buy time for her team or to prevent an enemy from escaping. She excels also when standing away from enemies, constantly launching damage into the enemies in the hopes of catching somebody with the attack and keeping herself at a distance, weaving in basic attacks to keep her team topped up against light poke. These are accomplished in a beastial melee form that has larger area coverage from Ki Flare, able to attack the entire enemy team at once with relative ease; high mobility from Prowling Fang, able to launch herself to the prime position for her Ultimate, My Accursed Soul. Her human form dedicates itself to getting away, able to apply a slow from afar with Soulstrike; following it up with Flying Fang to make a very clean getaway from opponents that do not predict her actions-- sometimes even against such foes, if one plays extraordinarily.
Support: Stay back and build Hunger stacks, attacking only as often as you need to to avoid losing stacks. Because of the need to maintain stacks, you will often end up pushing the wave farther than is comfortable.
#Playing As Wirym
Manage Commune. Without Prowling Fang, you can't easily get into the enemy team to unleash My Accursed Soul-- but without Soulstrike, you won't be able to harass enemies and easily build Lifesharer charges. Take careful note of the cooldown of Commune-- it dictates what you have access to. It is your most important ability by virtue of having two of your abilities locked behind it.
Be sure to get close to as many enemies as possible while fighting. Wirym has good in-fight durability thanks to Siphon, which only gets better if you're near to enemies. Striking a balance between abilities and spellcasts is also critical to bolstering Wirym's durability due to Thirst.
Don't stop throwing out your spells! Wirym's Lifesharer is her main way of helping out her allies, so try to constantly be casting Soulstrike or Ki Flare. This has the added benefit of helping preserve your Hunger stacks, which are quintessential to your damage output.
When playing Wirym in the jungle, occasionally visit your lanes just so you can heal them a bit with Lifesharer.
#Playing Against Wirym
Early on, Commune has an extremely high cooldown. This means that when Wirym changes, there is a fairly lengthy window during which you know what state she'll be in.
Wirym excels if she can keep up her Hunger stacks. Try to zone her away from targets so that she starts to lose them, then attack when she goes in to build them. Without her Hunger stacks, her damage is significantly reduced and so is her area of threat.
Wirym's abilities share Cooldowns, so you don't have to worry about her switching forms and instantly casting abilities--instead, you need to pay attention to how long ago she last transformed and her Cooldown Reduction, so that you can figure out where you need to stand to be able to dodge her abilities.
#Death Tips
Wirym's Commune has an incredibly high cooldown. When she changes form, change your play-style so she can't do what she wants!
Wirym restores Health as she damages enemies--If she builds items that offer Magic Damage, take care that you don't underestimate how durable she is.
If Wirym engages on you after fighting minions and monsters, it is likely that she has a large number of Hunger stacks-- try to back off of her for a bit so that she's weaker.
#Itemization
Wirym wants: Health, Armor, Magic Resistance, Ability Power, Cooldown Reduction, and Mana/Mana Regeneration. She can get by with less Health due to her constant regeneration of it while in the fray, but she needs to be durable enough to survive through enemy burst rotations.
Rabadon's Deathcap is one of the best AP-giving items in the game. However, Wirym does not want it badly, for it only offers AP. On the other hand, Rylai's Crystal Scepter is very useful good-- but Wirym can't make good use of the Unique (She already has CC built into all of the abilities that activate the passive). Luden's Echo is also very good for improving Wirym's damage, especially as she involves a lot of movement. However, it is not VERY suitable, given how much reliance Wirym has on actually surviving in the thick of a fight. It does provide a certain amount of on-demand healing, though, so you may want to pick it up sometimes. As a result, Wirym greatly prefers Rod of Ages. It also gives her some critical mana sustainability. I kind of recommend picking this up first. Boots of Speed, which should be upgraded dependent on the enemy team. Since Wirym already has a free Lich Bane on her Ult passive, you already are being forced to weave in basic attacks-- might as well make them stronger with this. A similar train of logic will tell you that Nashor's Tooth makes a great item for Wirym to pick up, and since it has passive Magic Damage like Lich Bane and Sunfire Cape, it makes sense to pick it up-- as well as the Sunfire Cape. I often describe Wirym's Siphon as 'a sunfire cape that does not reveal you', and stacking damage that comes with healing is nice. However, it is my opinion that grabbing both Nashor's Tooth and Lich Bane leave Wirym too squishy to adequately perform her function, so pick between the two depending on what you need-- higher sustained damage or more bursty damage. Though, mathematically, Nashor's Tooth almost always has more damage on it (and thus more healing), I recommend the Lich Bane because it has Movement Speed. Moving is fun! Plus, avoiding overlapping Cooldown Reduction is essential to being able to play well. Spirit Visage is definitely a go-to Magic Resistance item for Wirym due to her multiple self-heals. But this ends up leaving Wirym somewhat squishy still, though it does give her good sustained damage as well as decent survivability. A better tanky build would follow the lines of Rod of Ages, Iceborn Gauntlet, Sunfire Cape, Spirit Visage, Athene's Unholy Grail and Mercury's Treads. Though this leaves Wirym sore for some Ability Power, she is capable of surviving with what tools she has.
Basically, Wirym can't get all the stats she needs simultaneously, so you will have to choose carefully which stats you find most important in a given game. Having all the AP in the world doesn't mean anything if you die in a single second, and being virtually unkillable doesn't matter if you have no damage output. This is actually part of why I avoided giving Wirym % Enemy Health damage-- though it would allow her to better belong into the gameplay pattern I desire and fit thematically with her, it would reduce the decision-making process that goes into her itemization, because it would greatly accentuate making her more survivable. (One of her old kits had it. I do not like that kit as much as I like this one.
But, the central ideas for which Wirym's utility is based--
Full AP (Rabadon's, Zhonya's, Rod of Ages, Athene's, Void, Sorcs) - Amazing healer with decent damage output and good spread, but HAS to become vulnerable in order to do their worst to the foes.
Hybrid (Rabadon's, RoA, Sorcs, SV, Lich, Zhonya's) - Very sustainable in-combat and pretty good at healing allies and good at dealing damage. A hybrid between everything.
Tank (RoA, Sunfire, Iceborn, SV, Abyssal, Mercs) - Durable, relies entirely on TIME to deal damage. It slowly but surely adds up, during which Wirym herself remains fairly safe due to her incredible survivability with raw stats and missing Health recovery.
AP-HP (Rabadon's, Rylai's, Sunfire, RoA, RoA, Mercs) - The build that leaves Wirym incredibly prone to % damage also happens to be one that I like. It makes her very hard to kill because of her absurd Health-- and then she heals up from Lifesharer's % Missing Health portion. However, it's low on CDR, so I do not love it as much.
Or, if you want, you can just build a Rod of Ages whenever you have the money. They're bloody good, and Wirym loves the hell out of it. Just slip in some Cooldown Reduction and you're good to go.
(RoA, RoA, RoA, RoA, Sunfire, Mercs) - I fully expect this build. It's perfect besides lack of CDR, so hop up on some CDR/Level quints with this for sure.
Therefore, the perfect build is (Nashor's, Iceborn, RoA, RoA, RoA, Mercs) - it offers literally everything that Wirym wants. Mana sustain, sustained damage output, durability, and cooldown reduction. However, triple-RoA makes Wirym super vulnerable to % HP damage.
But Wirym is, as she has always been intended to be-- an omnilaner. I naturally therefore want to go over how she should build in other roles--not just as a top or mid lane.
As a support, Wirym should prioritize getting Frostfang for her gold generation--which naturally leads into becoming Frost Queen's Claim.
However, outside of that, Wirym still wants to follow the same build ideal--durability and Ability Power.
After Frostfang, she should probably get her Boots of Speed--which, again, should be upgraded based on what you need in a given game. A Sightstone--which will eventually become a Ruby Sightstone, is quintessential for the vision it offers. Alternatively, you could skip it for a Trinket upgrade, since it provides so much warding.
Rod of Ages remains a core item on her: it offers her literally everything she wants out of an item except on-hit magic damage and Cooldown Reduction.
Since Wirym wants Cooldown Reduction more than damage if she's trying to be a support, I could recommend Ionian Boots of Lucidity and pair it with one of the 5% cooldown reduction masteries, then finish with Iceborn Gauntlet and either Aegis of the Legion or Banner of Command.
Since that leaves you wanting Magic Resistance, Abyssal Scepter is a good pickup-- it even helps your team out more.
If Wirym's jungling, pick your upgrades based on what you need or want.
I recommend Skirmisher's Saber for your smite, as it adds a lot of damage to Wirym and she already has good chase and escape thanks to her E and Q, so the slow on Chilling Smite does not help her a lot. For her upgrade, however... -Cinderhulk is incredibly useful as it vastly improves her jungle sustainability and makes her have even more synergy with Health items, which in turn will make Wirym very tanky; but vulnerable to % HP abilities, so choose wisely. -Devourer is also powerful because it gives Wirym constant DPS from improved range. Now that Cinderhulk exists, this is much less prominent as a choice, because Cinderhulk does everything Wirym wanted out of Devourer besides grant Attack Speed, and it does them better. -Magus is very useful, but Wirym is more likely to get AP/CDR items from other sources.
To round out these three builds:
Cinderhulk: Rod of Ages, Randuin's Omen, Spirit Visage, Frozen Heart, Mercury's Treads [Unsure what quints to go for with this build. Sorry?]
Devourer: Rod of Ages, Nashor's Tooth, Sunfire Cape, Spirit Visage, Ninja Tabi [Run non-CDR quints and avoid 5% CDR mastery]
Magus: Rod of Ages, Lich Bane, Luden's Echo, Rod of Ages, Sorcerer's Shoes [Run CDR/Level quints for 15% CDR and 5% CDR mastery for capped CDR]
No matter what you're doing item wise, Wirym only really loves the following Runes:
Attack Speed, Ability Power, Magic Penetration, or Hybrid Penetration Marks % HP Seals Ability Power Glyphs Whatever-you-want Quintessences
Yes % HP Seals because Wirym loves HP items, and %HP is really super good (I did the math. Relative to how long I've spent on the rest of Wirym, it took 0 time to determine that % HP >>>>>>> flat HP or Armor+MR runes regarding durability).
#Extra Information
If Wirym were to make herself some New Years resolutions, a common trend in the United States, they would likely be...
- Don't get attached to individuals.
- Find origin of nine-tailed fox.
- Find people that want to die.
- Find people that other people want dead.
A friend asked me why Wirym takes the form she does:
Wirym chooses her human-fox state because it she has difficulty shapeshifting, so keeps some of her previous form's traits unless she concentrates on removing those parts for the proper ones. Her natural state is vaguely foxlike, and she was masquerading as a human before she fell in love with one. She maintains her human-fox state as a reminder to herself of that human that she loved, because that was how she was when he died due to her aura. Whether or not she has become better at shapeshifting is irrelevant to her-- that form is not only 'comfortable' and one she is very familiar with, but also one she has a lot of emotional attachment to.
Wirym's gone through multiple kits. Before I sold myself on 'non ult transformation', her kit was designed to be more feral, hamstringing opponents and becoming more savage as she fights, thirsty for more. It also took advantage of her heightened sense of hearing, giving her something that resembles Rek'Sai's burrowed effect-- it would work on stationary enemies, it would therefore work on wards and monsters, but it would not allow her to tell how many enemies were in a cluster nor what kind of unit it was.
This kit (which is actually more recent than the one in her old thread, I found some more of my drafts ,,) wasn't too bad from a gameplay standpoint (it did all the things I wanted it to do). I just knew I could make something better, that captured Wirym in a more unique way.
Instinct (Two-part passive)
- Extrasensory: Wirym can sense the presence of things within a certain range. She cannot identify what these things are nor their quantity, nor see if they are moving (the indicators themselves move and cover an area).
- Devourer: For each enemy hit by her abilities, Wirym gains a stack of Thirst, up to 10, lasting for 6 seconds. For each stack, Wirym gains 1% Movement Speed, Burst gains 5% range and width, Wirym Rushes 10% faster, and Ki Flare deals 7% additional damage. Each stack increases the size of multiple 'threads' that weave around Wirym's chest (at 0 stacks, it is barely poking out of her), forming an orblike shape.
Burst
-
Wirym concentrates and launches spirit energies in a 575 unit long line, dealing 50/80/110/140/170 (+40% AP) Magic Damage to enemies hit.
-
- 4 second cooldown, costs 30 mana
Ki Flare
-
Wirym fires threads from the orb hiding within her, dealing 60-220 (+60% AP) Magic Damage to all enemies in a cone, slowing them by 65%, which decays over 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds.
-
- 10/9/8/7/6 second cooldown, costs 45/50/55/60/65 Mana, 425 range
Rush
-
Wirym dashes, lacerating any Champions within 375 units of any point on her dash. Enemies hit are rooted for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 seconds and take 20/25/30/35/40% additional damage from Wirym for 5 seconds.
-
- 18/16.25/14.5/12.75/11 second cooldown, costs 80 mana, 500 range
Twisted Affection
-
Wirym hurls her orb, dealing 140/230/320 (+60% AP) Magic Damage to any enemies it hits, Splintering them for 5 seconds. The first Splintered enemy that Wirym damages is Charmed and then Feared for 0.75 seconds each.
-
- 60 second cooldown, costs 100 mana, 1300 range
This kit is actually pretty absurdly powerful damage-wise, especially for how much CC it has (~3.5 seconds of AoE CC and 1.5 seconds of single-target CC). To be exact, if you have 10 Thirst stacks before going in (which can be a bit difficult), E->Q->W->Q deals 999.6 (+254.8% AP) and is extremely difficult to miss.
But Wirym has always had, in all her incarnations, quite a few constants:
- A casting steroid, improving her damage or manipulation of that damage
- A conical AoE with CC
- A dash that has CC
- A linear skillshot
- A Charm
Because these all fit with who I want Wirym to be. 1 improves her assets as she stays in a fight, and this takes some advantage of her instinct-- she loses part of herself to them. 2, because she isn't picky with her targets. 3 as she must both be mobile and able to catch her prey, and 4 because she is trying to restrain herself, shown in some control. 5 is natural for her status; but it has only been in -most- of her kits, not -all- of them.
#Changelog

3/27/2015 I FORGOT CINDERHULK BECAME A THING~ <3 New stuff for Jungle Wirym section of itemization.
3/13/2015 Formatting changed/improved; no real changes.
1/22/2015 SOULSTRIKE / KI FLARE: Mana cost increased to 55/60/65/70/75 from 55 at all ranks.
FLYING FANG / PROWLING FANG: Cooldown increased to 14.5/14/13.5/13/12.5 from 14/13.25/12.5/11.75/11.

Changes from Forum -> Boards: (changelog for the time Wirym was on the forums located here ) * This changelog wasn't dated because I made it after-the-fact.
Lore adjusted to accommodate for the silliest retcon.
Attack Range reduced by 25 (150 -> 125). Movement Speed increased by 5 (335 -> 340). Health, Mana, Health Regeneration, Mana Regeneration, etc have all been adjusted to accommodate the switch to Growth stats. They HAVE been changed balance-wise, listed below is the difference between the simple formula-given ones from the old stats.
Health: Rounded up to a nice integer, Growth increased to 89 from 82 (max HP increased to 2078 from 1962) Health Regeneration: Changed (low-lvl up high-lvl down) from 7.344 (0.8) = 21.744 to 7.09 (0.63) = 17.8 Mana: Rounded down to a nice integer Mana Regeneration: Increased from 6.5344 (0.58) = 16.9744 to 7.09 (0.63) = 17.8 Attack Damage: Reduced from 61.042 (3.0611) = 113 to 59 (3.059) = 111. Though since Wirym is both melee and ranged, I'm not sure what to do. Attack Speed: Increased from 0.675 (2.6%) = 0.9909 (46.8%)* to 0.6885 (2.67%) = 1.001 (45.39%). Armor: Increased from 20.04 (3) = 71.04 to 21.79 (3.13) = 75 Magic Resistance: Unchanged.
*As an aside, this is incorrect. The proper level-18 AS for 0.675 (2.6%) is actually 0.97335 (44.2%). But whatever.
INNATE: Renamed to DEVOURER OF SOULS from LIFESHARER. New: ABSORPTION: Wirym restores Health equal to 50% (33% v monsters, 25% v minions) of any Magic Damage she deals outside of her activated abilities. Previously, this was a secondary passive of Siphon (itself being a passive of Commune) and had no name. It was moved here simply for some added clarity-- the actual balance was unchanged. LIFESHARER: Self-heal increased to 34 (+5.5 per Level) (+12 (+2.75% per 100 AP) % Missing Health) from 30 (+5 per level) (+11 (+2.5% per 100 AP) % Missing Health). Hexakill values defined. It's now an instant-heal again.
SOULSTRIKE: REMOVED: While the orb is in flight, Soulstrike can be reactivated to cause the orb to curve towards the cursor (it turns a maximum of 90 degrees, but turns slowly over a second). The orb has a fixed maximum travel distance. SOULSTRIKE & KI FLARE: Base Magic Damage reduced to 64/104/144/184/224 (+56% AP) from 75/115/155/195/235 (+60% AP). [-11 at all ranks] SOULSTRIKE & KI FLARE: Maximum Magic Damage changed to 96/156/216/276/336 (+84% AP) from 105/161/217/273/329 (+84% AP) [-9/-5/-1/+3/+7] due to stack cap increase [See HUNGER below]. SOULSTRIKE & KI FLARE: Mana cost changed to 55 from 45/50/55/60/65. Cooldown decreased to 6 seconds, from 6.5. HUNGER: Adjusted to 1.5% increased slow per stack, max stacks increased to 50 from 40. Previously 2% increased slow per stack. Stack falloff now begins after not dealing any damage for 7 seconds, from 6, and now begins at 1 stack per second, from 3.
COMMUNE: Cooldown increased to 40/35/30/25/20/15 from 21.5/19/16.5/14/11.5/9. Because she needs more weaknesses. This, admittedly, also somewhat screws with her jungling a bit, but it should still be survivable. COMMUNE (OFF) / HUMAN FORM: Mana restoration increased to 3/6/9/12/15/18% from 2.5/5/7.5/10/12.5%. Mana restoration is now reduced /to/ 25% of the previous values instead of /to/ 33% (33% from 50% against monsters). Attack Range bonus changed to 350-475 from 250-500. Wording changed from 'reverting' to 'altering' to keep it more consistent. COMMUNE (ON) / BEAST FORM: Unit collision adjustment rescaled to be higher at lower ranks (25-100 instead of 15-100).
SIPHON: Base Magic Damage per second reduced to 0/3.33/6.66/10/13.33/16.66 (+1/3 Champion Level) (+4% AP) (+0.66% Bonus Health) from 0/5/10/15/20/25 (+1/2 Champion Level) (+6% AP). Instead of scaling up to doubled damage in melee range of Wirym, it now scales up to tripled damage (yielding the same damage if in melee but less at range, if you ignore the Bonus Health scaling). SIPHON: Now always deals the full amount (tripled) damage to Monsters. Hopefully that makes up for the slight screw-over that bumping Commune's Cooldown causes to Wirym's jungle.
FLYING FANG & PROWLING FANG: Cooldown increased to 14/13.25/12.5/11.75/11 from 14/13/12/11/10. PROWLING FANG: Shield duration increased to 5 seconds, from 4. Bonus Health ratio added (6%). PROWLING FANG: Shield generation completely re-written. Instead of generating a flat amount of shielding per enemy hit [of Y strength for Champions and 2Y/3 for Large Monsters], she gains a Shield [of 'X' strength] for simply hitting a Large Monster or Champion with the ability. She then gains a reduced amount [X/3] for each additional Champion hit (hitting both a Champion and Large monster grants 4X/3 shields). Instead of generating [Y/3] Shields for hitting small minions and small monsters, IF she did not hit a Champion or Large Monster she generates [X/3] shields automatically and [X/6] shields for each small minion or monster hit.
Values and old description
X = 30/50/70/90/110 (+30% AP) (+10% Bonus Health) Y = 15/24/33/42/51 (+15% AP) (+6% Bonus Health)
...but generates 15/24/33/42/51 (+15% AP) (+6% Bonus Health) Shields per Large/Epic Monster or Champion, 10/16/22/28/34 (+10% AP) (+4% Bonus Health) Shields per Monster or Large Minion (Super/Cannon), and 5/8/11/14/17 (+5% AP) (+2% Bonus Health) Shields per small Minion hit. The shields last for 4 seconds.
MY ACCURSED SOUL: Movement Speed bonus duration increased to 6 seconds, from 5. Instead of granting 25% bonus Magic Resistance Magic Penetration for 12 seconds, grants a 15-second buff depending on current form (changing forms changes the buff)-- 50/75/100% Attack Speed and 50-unit on-attack lunges for Beast Form [thus allowing Wirym to attack from 175 units away], and in Human form basic attacks apply a 2/3/4% damage amplification that stacks up to 3 times for 3 seconds.
THIRST: No longer grants 50% Attack Speed. Damage reduced to 25/40/55 (+20% AP) (+100% Total AD) from 25/40/55 (+125% Total AD) (+20% AP). Activates Absorption instead of healing for exactly 100% of the damage dealt (in other words, it now heals for a fixed 50% of the damage dealt).
#Additional Artwork
She does what she'd do, random piece of art I did. I would call it poor (especially Wirym's feet).
