For any Lore Junkies out there, or just Players wanting to experience League strategies in a more concise way, League Factions allows deeper participation and allows you to engage with the Factions Community in making both the Lore & Faction Strategies.

you didn't link the website. http://leaguefactions.net/

that's kinda important for recruiting people...

edit: nm I missed it sorry.

I also thought of this video, but I was too embarrassed to link it.

As soon as I read Raptor's post, I thought:

BILLY MAYS HERE, WITH A SPECIAL TV OFFER— WATCH ME CRUSH THIS BALD, FAT, FOPPISH FOUNDING FATHER!

>.>

It's really quite demented, but…come on. "Call me Arthur Miller, son, because it's DEATH OF A SALESMAN!" That's hilarious.

I stopped playing solely because the calculations for each chapter took all of the fun out of it. When that gets revamped i'll come back

oh and the website needs a huge overhaul.

Calculations? o_o elucidate

they are actually pretty intense but the admin figure that each match has X weight based on Y players who focus on Z faction. The faction members each voted for A B or C to have happened and depending on the vote the point value for the match is distributed among A B and C. Then they post the calculations for all D number of factions and try to add a bit of story to explain the rational behind why they didn't do what they wanted yet. Not to mention that at any given time you have approximately 9 players (counting you) that want to play but they are distributed across 3-5 factions so no one actually wants to play. Then there is subbing for a faction where you can help one of your enemy factions but your participation is only weighed at a fraction of the standard value. So on and so forth. I'm brushing the surface.

edit: don't get me wrong I love the idea and would really enjoy participating, I just disagree with the approach the creators are taking with it.

CCT is only calculating these things so intently because he wants an exact way to determine how strong or weak a faction is at any given point, then structure it around that. It essentially fuses gameplay and lore into one, and it is honestly quite fun. I, of course, never pay attention to these statistics. I mostly just play intermission matches, which carry a lot less weight than featured matches in the city state's score.

I appreciate you taking the time to post, but I'm genuinely a little confused as to what you're saying.

I'm not sure I follow. The weight of a match is set based on the relative skill matchups of the Summoners on each side, and the relative standings of the two factions. A stomp by a bunch of Golds against a bunch of Silvers is worth fewer points than an even match, and likewise the dominant faction beating the weakest faction is worth fewer points than a match between two factions that are neck-and-neck. The latter adjust is somewhat arbitrary, and is just meant to encourage occasional brawls between the champs and the underdogs. The former has a pretty strong empirical basis in observed winrates.

The faction members each voted for A B or C to have happened and depending on the vote the point value for the match is distributed among A B and C.

Point values for matches are not "distributed", except between the winner and the loser. Is this maybe an allusion to World Systems?

Not to mention that at any given time you have approximately 9 players (counting you) that want to play but they are distributed across 3-5 factions so no one actually wants to play.

We are always looking for more people so as to make it easier to get a match going, but I think your characterization of the situation is a little pessimistic. At a glance, there have been about 200 matches in the past ~70 days, or about 3 matches per day. Not that we don't want to increase that number, but I think we're doing alright so far.

Then there is subbing for a faction where you can help one of your enemy factions but your participation is only weighed at a fraction of the standard value.

This is primarily a way to make matches easier to start: if necessary to fill in some open slots on a team, a faction can bring in subs from another faction, so long as the subs aren't playing against their "real" faction. So, if Noxus and Shurima are setting up a match, and Noxus still needs two more Summoners, they can bring in two Piltovians to round out the match. These matches are worth fewer points because the fate of a faction is supposed to depend on what its Summoners do. For example, the rule is set up to "zero out" if either side is entirely made up of subs: it would be really weird (and unfair) if, e.g., Demacia lost points from a match that had no Demacian Summoners in it.

It sounds like overall you think the rules that govern Factions are too complicated. That's a fair critique. We certainly would prefer for things to be simpler. If you have a concrete suggestion for how to simplify the rules, I'd certainly be game to hear it.

CCT I honestly don't know how to make it better. I know that it feels underwhelming to go into a scored match and then look and be like "you see that little speck on the graph. that's me."

I read through all of your comments and I understand them from your point of view. I believe a lot of it is necessary to the way you do business. I don't, however, agree with it. I know why you allow subbing, I know why you advertise more players, I get all of it but it makes it hard to get into nonetheless.

One issue I didn't get into when I was posting is when I did play I commonly ran into, "oh you're bronze, yea you cant be in this match" -boot-

I'm a math wiz so I wouldn't mind brainstorming a bit. I still stand by the website needing an overhaul. I have talked with you before on this but if someone can find some server space to assign the domain name to a website that flows better wouldn't be hard for a coder like me.

That has never happened to me before. There is practically no ranked discrimination in Factions, and I don't ever recall there being any. If that is the case, then I assume they just wanted an even matchup, so they had to balance out the number of each ranked player on both teams.

when I played in the freljord faction I had 4 people flat out tell me "you're bad, don't play" then booted me from the room. After that I couldn't get anyone to run a match with me.

So what I did bad as ashe one game...no big deal. I then tried days later and two of those same people kept telling people not to invite me because "hes bad". So yea there is some salt from that but honestly isn't much of a concern for me, not nearly so much as getting some better flow for the players who hate the numbers and graphs.

BetaDude401 votes

You know the names of those guys? That's certainly not accepted, and CCT would probably kick them out given the chance.

As for the graphs and the numbers and all of that, it is completely irrelevant to the match. All factions should have the ability to fight on an equal playing field, and all the graphs serve is something more strategic to base the lore around. If you don't like that, then you have the choice to play Intermission matches, which carry little to no weight in the statistics. And, even then, we often play faction TBs or blinds, where we make a team of just one faction and then somehow fail miserably :/

If Factions isn't your cup of tea/beer/wine/coke/whatever the hell you drink, then that's fine. Do whatever you feel like, and we can help you along with it if you want.

I just added them to my block list. Like I said it wasn't what bothered me the most. If it continued I was going to report them to CCT.

As far as numbers and graphs. I like factions because I want to influence some lore. I want to know I made a difference but its just too hard to follow on the graphs and whatnot.

I love the idea of Factions, I would love to enjoy it. I cant feel like I'm part of the coming storylines because of the way it is presented.
