133 champions in League of Legends and both teams pick the same 10 champions every game

One of my biggest questions is this, what is there to strategize about when you are just going to pick the same champions as last game? You see the coaches with the teams before each game starts but you pick the same champions.

Don't allow them to play the same champs in a Best of series in multiple games (for one team). Problem solved and hella entertaining probably.

and thus another argument for more bans

Meanwhile in dota, they pick like 90% of heroes.

OK, it was a close call, turned blue gasping for air while laughing, but alive!

So far I've counted 54 champs picked this worlds Also it's 132, Ivern isn't enabled on this patch

they need more bans. also they need to add more jungle camps. and more variables. for more champions to be viables.

Because everything is else trash tier/not suitable for such an environment.

Well... its like the same 15-20 champs. Not 10.

But jokes aside... The main issue is that at the moment a lot of the champs do similar things. For example Cassiopeia vs Orianna ... on face value their kits are different. However not different enough for it to change how your team plays the game. But compare them to Ryze ... hes ultimate (when used well) is much more game-changing than anything that Cassiopeia Orianna can do.

Ryze is imo one of the few champs whose kit (only the ult to be honest) actually stands out as significantly different from other champs. But most of the kit differences unfortunately boil down to slight modifications of dmg and status effects. It also relates to the issue that most skills in League are actually not that impactful, thus making kit differences even less important.

(I am bad at explaining this, but hopefully someone gets the idea that i was trying to get across)

The main thing, for Bo5s at least, is that both teams come into the series with a strategy for Game 1. One team wins that game. Then, the losing team decides that it wasn't the comp that lost it for them, and the winning team really doesn't want to change anything, because they won. So the teams end up with the same picks in multiple games. It happens much less in Bo1s, since both teams come in with special strategies against that opposing team and don't reuse them against other teams.

And, often, the coaches talk to their team about what went wrong in-game. "God dammit Smurf, stop dying to Odoamne all the goddamn time" might be something that the ANX coach says to Smurf after Game 1/2 vs H2K, for example, or "Stop dying and end the goddamn game" might be something Prolly would say to H2K after Game 1, which they fixed for Game 2.

If ANX doesn't ban Jayce now I'll wet myself laughing. If Smurf takes Gnar against Jayce I'll die laughing.
