Riot and the Profession of Esports Athlete

Has anyone else read this article LINK I will never be a professional but while Riot is making millions, the career gamer is making poverty level wages. Even if i had the skill i dont think I could become a pro with that kind of support from the only gaming entity. Remember RIOT owns everything about LOL including the contracts, the wages, the tournaments, the prizes and your first born.

As an average esports athlete (hah) I would like to see some of those millions invested more into the players than into the Riot Wallet.

...and ffs..a midwest/east coast server please ...avg ping is 120? ridiculous.

This ties in to a post I made a little while back. Until we find some way of getting these guys representation, they'll continue to be exploited like this. Maybe Riot doesn't intend for it to come off as exploitation, but these players are in no way getting something approximating a fair wage. There's a reason there are league minimums in sports like basketball and American football. So that you can't get away with paying someone under $500/month while putting in almost sixteen hours per day.

So what do the top level players make off their streams? I mean it seems to me that is where they would make a steady revenue. Also as much as we want it to be eSports is not really huge yet.
