Remove Competition Bans

It would be better seeing the players on their best champs all the time.

At the moment you see them playing sub-optimally and they are forced to play at their second or third best.

Balance isn't perfect, there are always champs who are weaker than the rest and champs that are stronger than the rest. Bans are important, and it's a strategic part of the game.

You have to think about this a lot more. Wouldn't it have been better to see every pro player at their absolute best?

Btw, there is never one, single op champ, and even op champs have hard-counters, so each team gets to pick one anyway.

What Riot are doing atm is forcing players into off-picks they don't like. It's like a footballer is banned from playing his best position by the other team.

What Riot are doing atm is forcing players into off-picks they don't like. It's like a footballer is banned from playing his best position by the other team.

Even if champs have counters, that doesn't mean they'll be useless, there are strong picks that can easily turn fights around, such as Shen/Morg who used to be perma banned. Also, one team always has the last pick, so you can't always counter.

Riot isn't forcing players into off-picks, if you main just 1 champ and it gets banned then yeah you're screwed, but pros have a variety of champs that they can play, what kind of professional could only play one champ? Most pros are equally good with their top champs. That's also a horrible analogy, a better analogy would be a footballer getting his best cleats banned.

Bans are a strategic part of the game. Pros also don't always pick their best champs, there is a lot of discussion pre game and during champ select about team comp. If everyone always just played their best/fav champ then they would likely lose due to a horrid comp.

In a game with 100+ champ, do you think the pros give a fuck about 3 bans? No, they got 97+ to chose from. In a fighting game, you minimally got 8 fighters to chose. If bans were allowed, it would be a problem.

Ofc they care. That's why they spend a lot of effort banning out each other and would prefer to play their mains.

Little off topic, In smash bros tournaments, they pick and ban stages, so there's the strategy of picking stages that work with your character and banning stages your characters is awful at.

I really enjoy the strategy of the pick and ban phase. I agree with you that all things being equal, I'd prefer to see pros on their favorite champs. However, I care more about seeing diversity in competitive play. The game is much more exciting for me (albeit harder to shoutcast) when I don't know exactly what each team is going to pick. This is why UOL is the only reason I watch the LCS: because with every other team, I know exactly how the game is going to go. UOL keeps me guessing, which makes each and every one of their games exciting.

If removing bans wouldn't have any effect on strategic and champion diversity, I would do it in a heartbeat. But I suspect that we'd end up with the same teams running the same strats with the same champs, and I would quickly tire of that.

On that, there isn't all so much diversity even with the bans. Everyone knows what champs will be played every series already. So it's not that different in that respect, except that they currently don't play their best champs.

One thing that could be done is to have a whole tournament - or in series of five the first two games - played without bans.
The nerf/buff cycle already can incentivise players to change their mains.
