Lack of Champion Variety at Worlds

I'm already bored of the champion pool at worlds. It seems small considering the wide variety of different regions participating. A lot of these wild card teams have been successful using a wide variety of champions to get here, yet they are aren't showing them. Do others share my disappointment?

Yeah, Riot tried to make silly minor changes to spice years the picks but it was a fail

I highly disagree to this. Not even a third of the total games and only half the teams have even shown on stage so far. Also at this junction, the teams only had 4 games to survive upon. Not even Kira who was the most successfully decorated player by champion pool in this play in stage could have nor should have thrown all his cards on the table. You sound like you actually watched the minor region games and I seriously doubt that.

I've also read that there have been 13 unique jungle champions played already. Added to a few outside the bot lane trinity, a resurging Ryze, statements above, and counting target bans, it's too early to even draw a decent conclusion about "champion diversity"

Kira used Anivia, a champ he's good on, lost to WE but that's because they were WE.

We've got a lot of games to come and hopefully with their different styles and types of play, we'll see different champs from the different regions. Although, I could do with less J4.

Once we hit group stage, I'm sure a new meta will emerge - with stuff making galio less insta-lock and same for xayah. Her damage is less than some other adc's for early/mid game I think and this should allow teams to punish others for insta-locking her. Also, most people aren't using her ult properly - they always save it for when THEY are in absolute danger of dying. Like - if you can cc multiple enemies by using it earlier and thereby buy time for your teammates so they don't die so fast - then you are getting more out of it than holding it until you are 2v4 and manage to trade 1 for 1 with it. Rakan - probably better early pick than xayah - there's other self-peeling adc's out there who are top tier and rakan just has the most deadly engage for his team of basically any support with the current team comps. Still, I expect to see something other than alistar as a counter-pick to him eventually. I'd ask for a leona, but that's probably hoping too much. He is squishy enough early that you should be able to punish him as a tank engage support as long as you can trade cc effectively - like ali does. And he doesn't use heal/shield support items over an extended duration as well as something like janna, lulu, sona. But you basically have to make a gameplan entirely around demolishing ardent censer supports in lane or else have an ardent user on your team sadly... since Riot thought it needed to not bring the item properly into line lest abusers of it disappear from the top tier list of supports for worlds this year.

Everyone adopts a "world's meta" when they get to worlds - sometimes there's 2-3 metas until one emerges as the clear strongest, but that's unfortunately how it kind of goes. That's why I like the "wildcard" teams - you get to see something new now and again. It means you don't know exactly how the game is going to play out because you haven't seen that team comp before.

I don't know why you are surprised as this happens every single tournament.

As long as Cassiopeia Orianna Syndra Taliyah Leblanc are the big picks mid I will always be disappointed. Same with item 3504 supports
