Nautilus Ult - is this intended?

So, in the EU LCS Match UOL vs. OG, there was a teamfight where Nautlius used his ult on the enemy Lucian at 22:48 but it got cancelled (fizzled out?) early after one or two ticks and was off cooldown immediately again (it didn't reach Lucian at all) and he could recast it immediately again, using it on the opposing Lee Sin at 22.58.

Now, as a dedicated Nautilus player, I've never experienced that before in any of my games, so it obviously caught my immediate attention. Can anyone explain me, if that is intended to happen and and if so, what exactly happened that caused this situation?

Did Lucian have a QSS? I'm pretty sure QSS can fizzle it.

This has come up as a bug in the past, but was said to be fixed. It's possible that they are playing on an earlier patch that may still had some odd code that malfunctioned.

Naut ult will fizzle if you loose vision of the target before the cast animation completes (not out of range, out of vision).

Could also be a spectator client side bug as the players didn't seem phased by it.
