The new "Goth" Annie skin could as well be renamed to HotTopic Annie, she lost all of her charm and gothic aspects with the new splash art. I know it's too late to complain and even if, I can't do anything about it anymore anyways, so I just save the old splash on my computer to remind me how Goth Annie was once a thing, before she turned into a girl-that-likes-black-clothes character..

yes. Chinese people, as a collective group of several hundred or more cultures spanning an enormous country, are afraid of makeup and frowns. How about we stop being subtley xenophobic and accept that these splash unifications cover and are under the sway of much more people than just NA and CN?

Personally, I just think they wanted to make her cuter for general mass appeal.

This change is part of the global splash update and these changes usually use chinese splash arts. I doubt this splash comes from another region. Do you have any information where it's from else?

no where in that does it require them to be gloomy and sad.

I am glad they changed annie from the ignorant stereotype of what goth means.

she is still very much goth. just because her mystical manipulation of tibbers gives her glee instead of sorrow, doesn't change that fact.

in fact, i feel it matchers her in-game character from her quotes much better.

No, it's her twisted personality. She likes burning people but in a more psychopatic way rather than maniacal. The Goth skin just shows her angry. You could say the League trailer where the new Baron was introduced, when Annie was smiling for a moment and hugging Tibbers she was "Normal" but then got angry and threw her bear at Tryndamere.

I agree with you, but I wanted to point out that I think the joke of the skin is that it fits the stereotype. It's not meant to be a social message, just a skin to have fun with.

I think people liked it BECAUSE of the stereotype if you will.

Although I agree the goth subculture is often generalized into sad and gloomy, its not like its for no reason, as the origins of the word Gothic is from the language/Germanic people sub-type, and then used to describe building architecture. Then it became used to describe art, specifically "barbaric" looking art in way of ugly proportions and strange compositions that weren't appealing to the eye as the more classical arts styles were. And then to describe music, sometimes as "Gloomy, and melancholy" to then finally describe the subculture that developed off of that music.

So its easy for people to want whats advertised I guess, even if its a slightly wrong advertisement.

I see, this does make sense. I am not particularly disatisfied with her changes, but I feel it's a little weird still to see someone say "she's lost her gothig look" becuase, well, no, she hasn't. she just looks gothic in a different way.

but, it is good to know that it isn't out of the gothic history, for the association of anger/pain with goth.

They change sion from Arnold Schwarzenegger zombie into a gore hungry engine of pain and suffering.

Gangplank goes from pirate mc pirate to bone carving corsair with no love of living things and a thirst for revenge that will drown his hometown in blood.

The last two adcs they released were 1. A death obsessed serial killer and 2. The physical embodiment of death.

But I too yearn for the adult themes of the past, with champions like rammus and teemo

I also don't dislike the new version. However, regardless of how much I like either the old or new one, I believe this change took away from the theme of the skin. I simply can't come up with a reason for the change at all.

Honestly, the change makes me more inclined to buy the skin. I was annoyed when they got rid of Frostfire Annie's smirk in favor of a more generic grumpy face, because she always struck me as a champion who had FUN massacring her enemies with fire and doom. If anything, I think the change here makes her look more like Wednesday Addams and less like Marylin Manson - that might be a problem to some people out there, but to me, it just fits her a lot better.

This, Cottontail Teemo, that fucking godawful Talon splash change... there's so many that we can't even band together and contest them like we could with the Fiora one. I just wish SOMEBODY from Riot would even acknowledge how many people are just straight up unhappy about these changes.
