So groups A & B have finished up their group stage and we are soon to move on to Groups C (group of death) & D. But before we do lets look back on A & B and pull out all the statistics and find out which champs are getting picked, which ones are seeing success, and which champions are coming up short.

The first thing to look at is bans. Here are the top ten bans, for groups A & B (For the first time in a while,Kassadin is not on here)

  1. Alistar 84%
  2. Zilean 76%
  3. Nidalee 60%
  4. Maokai 44%
  5. Ryze 40%
  6. Zed 32%
  7. Fizz 28%
  8. Lucian 28%
  9. Rengar 24%
  10. Yasuo 24% Almost all these bans were targeted at solo lanes (and with the current meta, top lane was the heavy target)

Here's the pick percentages separated for each position:

Top Lane summoner 12

  1. Ryze 48%
  2. Maokai 40%
  3. DrMundo 20%
  4. Alistar Nidalee Rumble Irelia 16%
  5. Kayle Lulu 12%
  6. Swain 4%

So those Champs were picked the most, but lets take a closer look at their win rate and see how they fared on the rift.

  1. Irelia (4 Games) Swain (1 Game) 100%
  2. Alistar Rumble 75%
  3. Kayle 66.6%
  4. Maokai 50%
  5. Ryze 41.6%
  6. Lulu 33.3%
  7. Nidalee 25%
  8. DrMundo 0%!!!!!!!!(Despite having a 20% pick rate, the mad man of Zaun just couldnt find a foothold in the first two groups of worlds. It's also worth noting that 4 of his 5 losses were against Ryze. So what the pros learned (SK Gaming) is that if you run Mundo into Ryze, your gonna have a bad time!)

Jungle summoner 11 (Pick rates)

  1. Khazix 80%
  2. LeeSin 72%
  3. Rengar 24%
  4. JarvanIV 12%
  5. Elise Nunu Pantheon Vi 4%

Win Rates:

  1. Rengar 83.3% So anyone watching the NA LCS Summer split cringed whenever a team picked Rengar, the trend being that he would continuously lose. Teams from other regions have proven there is alot of value in him, and the NA scene just needs to learn how to pick him up. 2.LeeSin 55.5% 3.Khazix 45% 4.JarvanIV 33.3% 5.Elise Nunu Pantheon Vi 0%

Mid Lane Being the most expansive role, I'll list all champs ran mid lane, and give the top numbers for percentages. Orianna Syndra Fizz Zilean Zed Yasuo TwistedFate Xerath Talon Jayce Ahri Kassadin Katarina Ziggs

Orianna was the most picked mid laner with 44%, followed by Zed, Fizz, Yasuo, & Syndra each chipping in 20% Kassadin &Katarina go undefeated so far, Zilean comes in with a 75% win rate(and with a 78% ban rate, Zilean was a hottly contested pick)

ADC The most picked ADC??? You guessed it, Lucian! Lucian 56% Tristana 44% Twitch KogMaw Jinx 20% Vayne 12% Caitlyn Corki Ezreal 8% Graves 4%

Vayne Vayne certainly deserves the MVP for the ADC group. Winning all three of her games, putting up big kill numbers, and even securing a penta-kill.

And since we're about to talk about supports, here's a few duo lane stats: Most picked duo lanes: Lucian Janna or Lucian Thresh

Most successful lane: Twitch Thresh currently hold a 3-1 record, not too shabby.

Support: Pick rate Janna 60% Virtually coming out of nowhere, Janna has taken worlds by storm (pun certainly intended) First picked up in the OGN, she now is top priority for almost all teams. Thresh 44% Nami 32% Braum 16% Blitzcrank Leona 12% (Picked 3 games & lost all of them, Blitzcrank is struggling to secure a victory so far.) Morgana Sona 8% (On the opposite side Morgana has won both of her games very convincingly.)

So looking at the stats, here is the most picked team comp for Groups A&B Ryze Khazix Orianna Lucian Janna

And looking at the win rates, here is the most successful team comp for groups A&B Irelia Rengar Zilean Vayne Morgana(I know ZIlean only has a 75% win rate, and Kassadin & Katarina have 100%, but Zilean has played four games, so I'm giving it to him.)

So there ya have it folks, all the stats and numbers your heart could desire. Keep an eye out after groups C&D conclude to get a full recap of their champions selected in games.

Happy warding,

I want to see more ezreal. I feel like all the ADCs are viable in top play at the moment and would like to see more diversity.

Awesome recap! I hope you do the same for the rest of Worlds. :)

I like it. Just out of curiosity though, where do you get the percentage's from? I assume that it's simply from the graphics that appear whenever a champion is chosen, but still though I'd just thought that I'd ask to make sure though.

Thanks in advance.

This has been an ongoing trend with Dr. Mundo for a while now. On patch 4.14, Dr. Mundo has only managed to win four total games in competitive matches, despite being picked twenty times throughout Regional Qualifiers and the first half of Worlds group stage. Even before this event, he was looking at a <30% win rate, by far the lowest of champions with respectable pick rates. Curiously, the next lowest win rate among commonly picked champions belongs to Lulu, another top laner, who's won only 7 of her 21 games this patch.

Anyways, as a fan of LoL statistics, good work on compiling and presenting all of this data. I've been recording competitive picks and bans for a few months now, but I've never found a good way to present the information to a broader audience. I must say, I like your approach.

(Also, I'd like to point out that your 'most picked team' shares four out of five members with a team comp I posted about a week before worlds started. Feels good.)
