LEAK: Riot Esports Future Includes Crowdfunding and Partnerships

Big News! It just leaked that Riot is going to start crowd funding their events like DOTA! The International had a $20 million pot! Imagine what League's would be!

What do you guys think? Is this a great idea?

Riot's going to be panned for it. Valve can get away with stuff like this because almost everyone on the internet is blindly in love with them. Riot will get called greedy, cheap, or awful for doing it because people like to criticize them.

Overall, I think it's a decent enough idea, I just dunno if Riot can get away with it sicne they lack Valve's free pass.

I think it's okay and it adds excitement to the scene, but if they really want progress they should split any profits with all the teams in the LCS (maybe even with some laid aside for relegated LCS teams). While a team should be rewarded for winning, you can't also expect losing teams to compete with winning teams unless they're supported in someway. If you lose, you don't have enough money to get better players/staff, because you don't have better players/staff, you lose. It's an endless cycle for teams who lose and teams who win have the opposite cycle occur where they just keep winning because no losing team will have the ability to contend with them. The introduction of IMT, NRG, and FOX are all exceptions to this cycle because they have so much money backing them (and sadly 2 of them seem to have poor staff who don't know how to use it, but that's simply my personal opinion).

I think it's a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done for teams that are on the bottom half of the success spectrum imo, it'll make the scene much more competitive.
