Riot needs to get rid of the import rule | Dot Esports

So this writer tries to make a case for Riot removing the Import rule, for NA and all regions. What do you think?

After reading, personally I think the author is a dumbass. On one hand, he tries to say importing players won't completely displace native talent, and uses Korean players going to China as an example. Issue is, he even mentions earlier about how LARGE the Chinese player base is, big enough China has its own separate Hi-Elo server. So no, the example is trash and this point is beyond flawed.

Second, he tries to make a case that by teams being free to import talent it will force players in a region like NA to improve to keep their roster spots. There is a grain of truth, but it's far more problematic. There will likely be a few teams with more resources better able to hire more foreign talent, while lesser NA teams won't be able to keep up. Once you go to a model like this, you're screwed until you restrict rosters again. Look at pro sports like MLB and NBA. With little or no salary cap, specific teams can regularly attract better players while poorer teams cannot compete in free agency. Meanwhile in a league like NFL and NHL, salary caps keep the leagues more competitive. Yes, there are better run franchises which see more regular success, but they can't instantly take the extra profits they get and shove it into hiring better and better talent. Also, especially because the author highlights a lack of lower competitive play currently to develop new NA pros, what happens when more pros are cut or retire when imports replace them? Where can they compete to improve? Go try to get into EU Masters? This would effectively end some current pros careers (not necessarily a bad thing) and make the hurdle for a young NA player to go pro even higher.

I could rant more, but in short, this doofus has so many logical fallacies and holes in his article I can't believe it saw print.
