The most interesting competitive game in a long time

So im not a huge fan of competitive play,even though its interesting to watch because of the macro play it gets boring pretty quickly most of the time ( just my opinion)

But today there was a game like no other,FNC VS GAM,and if you would like to watch an unusual funny game i'd highly recomend you to watch the replay

I really loved it (the game isnt over yet by the time im writing this but still you need to watch it ahah)

I couldn't agree more with OP. Worlds is the same 15 champs over and over and over utilizing very similar strategies. GAM really broke the mold for that game and it paid off. Looked like a bloodbath, just sloppy league of legends to start...yet as the game went on, GAM was planning on that party game the whole time. Awesome game. Best Worlds match so far, long and away!!

Well considering trist is the single most picked champion in the game right now thats hardly what id call breaking the mould. http://www.lolking.net/charts#/Most%20Popular%20Champions - source. An ardent utility support with a heal a shield speedup and knock up where have we seen that before? And a tank galio top top laner with an engage jungler omg what a surprise. Every solo que game this season is just get the ardent trist/twitch fed. there are literally dozens of posts on boards complaining about this exact comp it is nothing new. The champs themselves might be slightly diffrent with kass and noc but the comp itself does the exact same thing. Power up the trist with all the support utility and throw galio at them to soak damage while noc starts the fights. Literally nothing new or surprising its just the same old strat with a slightly diffrent draft.

Sense when do opinions count as "facts"? i can say ap draven jungler is the next worlds meta and claim it as fact and it dosnt mean anything. i watched all the games. sure it was a slightly different draft but literally nothing new from every solo que game this season. You have stated that it was a different match. which is entirely subject to opinion. i how ever actually have used facts. And tagged my sources. But i guess i cant expect the boards to be any less braindead than the rest of the player base. Simply finding a game to be more creative than any others is entirely subject to opinion so take your facts claims and gtfo

They picked nocturne, he has an incredibly low play rate in pro play.
They lane swapped. This never happens anymore.
They took ignite heal. This never happens.
They double jungled. This never happens anymore. These are four ways you are wrong. I could state much more but this is enough to prove you took an L. Don't bother replying.

1: noc itself is a diffrent pick but the job it does is still the same as reksai or jarvan picks and does the same tasks 2: Lane swaps dont happen for a reason they have proven to be ineffective in the current meta 3: They still had a heal/shield ardent cencer lane bot, lulu trist which is pick or ban in almost every worlds match so far, that or xayah/twitch Tl;DR their picks and start may have been diffrent but for the bigger picture that is irrelevant. The draft was built around doing the exact same thing that every other team is doing. Engage jungle= check. Ardent cencer bot lane with twitch/trist/xayah with a shield/utility support? Check. Top lane meat shield with peel and damage soaking ability? Check. They may have gone about it slightly diffrently but their comp did all the same things literally every other worlds draft has done so far. They diddnt go for protect the maw. They diddnt go for carry oriented top lane. They diddnt play to their mid laner. No. They played around their ardent bot lane just like every other game so far. Kindly do everyone a favor and gtfo

Noc is not an engage jungler like j4 or reksai. You have no clue what you are talking about. Just a sheep who thinks "wow they pick trist and lulu meta noobs". I'm not gonna reply anymore since you proved you don't know what you're talking about.

I loved GAM at MSI. But they dropped the ball after great initial games.

Man, when they came out today I was shocked, sad, happy. Oh man, GAM I don't know how far you can go, but shake the group stages up. Don't give them time to adjust and go crazy.

Also, I do miss ?Slay the old ADC. He had a shallow pool, but I liked him. Strange to put Archie up top, but new botlane was interesting.

Lulu is a conventional pick again but I think going heal ignite on lulu was fairly innovative.
Sure Galio is a more conventional pick but How many galios leash the jungler through a five camp clear and arrive in the bot lane assignment at level one?
And Nocturne was not a conventional pick by any means.
Kassadin is played but isn't the most popular pick either.
All in all I thought the marines brought the cheese and it aged quite well.

That whole group will be crazy good viewing. The Longzhu-IMT match was very contested as well, you wouldn't expect that was the Korean summer champs vs the NA #2. We can expect FNC to play a similar competitive style with each of them. The major question is how LZ and IMT will deal with GAM's controlled chaos.

I haven't seen IMT's match yet but yeah, looks like they hung in. A lot of people groaned when they saw that match first but I was glad of it. You get the game you're not expected to win at all first to get your feet wet and you get the games you have to win to advance later. Whereas Fnatic just lost a game they had to win. I'd have much rather played Longzhou than the marines first.

Another benefit of the matches is the morale boost for IMT compared to the morale hit for FNC. IMT hung with the LCK champs and made it a fight. If they can do that with LZ, they can compete with anyone and at least make a respectable showing. Meanwhile FNC was dragged into GAM's gameplan and all along it felt like they were a bit behind the curve and wouldn't catch up. While GAM might be an emerging force internationally, to be a storied powerhouse and drop your first game to them sucks. Not only that, but it gave both IMT and LZ a look at what to prepare for from GAM.
